The Ford Focus ST may not be a true "RS"-grade hatchback, but it does come close in spec (and for once, we get it in the U.S.). But is the ST enough to show up the latest overseas-only hot-hatch competition?

In the latest Chris Harris on Cars, Chris stages a showdown among the 2013 Ford Focus ST and two heated-up hatchbacks of the old world — the Renaultsport Megane RS and Vauxhall Astra VXR — on road and on track.

The point may be moot for American car buyers, but there's no doubt that Ford's new global carmaking policy bodes well for those of us who appreciate cars of the smaller, nimbler, obtanium-alloy variety.
