Bloomberg reports that Mercedes is still out in front in the race for U.S. luxury car sales leadership, but BMW has narrowed its lead. As of the end of October, Mercedes was ahead of BMW by 2,748 vehicles. One big question is what kind of impact Hurricane Sandy will have on luxury car sales. The Northeast is a tremendously important luxury car market and key places, like Westchester County and Long Island have been hit hard by the storm. True Car vice president Jesse Toprak says the storm's aftermath should slow sales in the first half of this month, then boost deliveries in December as consumers replaced totaled vehicles." For luxury vehicles, I expect it will be a net positive for the year because of replacement of total-loss vehicles," he said.
