Rejoice, Four-Door Coupe Lovers! The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Debuts On The Nurburgring

You know, I consider myself a pretty lucky guy overall. I have this sweet gig at Jalopnik, an awesome dog, and I live in a city where breakfast tacos are readily available. But lately, I can't shake the feeling that something is missing in my life.

I wasn't able to put my finger on it until recently. Then I woke up one morning and thought, "My life just won't be complete until I own a slightly larger version of the BMW 3 Series with four doors, but is called a coupe instead just because its rear end is a bit sleeker."

Well, it turns out Bimmer Jesus was listening to my prayers — and he answered them with this: the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Our friends at F30 Post first revealed these spy shots of the new Gran Coupe testing on the 'Ring in Germany, and they even included this video of it in action.

As you may have heard by now, the next coupe version of the new 3 Series will be called the 4 Series instead. So it follows that BMW will be doing a faux-coupe version of that car, just like they did with the four-door 6 Series. Which is normally a two-door. But isn't a 5 Series. Confused yet?

It's timely that this comes up now. Just the other day, we were discussing the massive amount of new BMW models that have come out in recent years. Back in the 80s it used to be just the 3, 5, 6, and 7 series, and assorted M variants. Now BMW makes approximately 117,000 different cars if my math is right, and it rarely is.

I guess BMW is simply trying to offer something for everyone. I don't doubt that the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be impressive to drive, but I'll ask you guys this: How much is too much?
