The Paris Motor Show was a big deal for Jaguar Land Rover. First, the F-Type brought Jaaaaaag back to its roots with their first two seat roadster in eons.
But it was also the scene for a reinvention of the ultimate luxury off roader: The Range Rover. And it looks way better in person. Give it a quick 360 degree spin above and check it out.
When we first saw the new Range Rover, we weren't all that excited. "It looks like a Ford Explorer" was a frequent refrain. Seeing it in person is a totally different experience. It works, and it works well.
All the elements come together to make an SUV that is actually rather attractive. Yes, the detailing on the doors is a little overwrought and I'm not a fan of the LED bejeweled headlights, but other than that it, looks rather good.
When it goes on sale in America, the Range Rover will have a starting price of $83,500 for the 375 horsepower V8. Power goes all the way up to 510 in the supercharged model with an engine straight out of the Jaguar XJ Super Sport. Both have an eight speed automatic.
As we knew, it weighs nearly 1,000 pounds less than the current car in some specs. To put it another way, it lost the weight of Rosie O'Donnell. That's damn good.
Sure, we aren't getting the diesels or the diesel hybrid here in America, but who knows, that may happen down the line. We're yet to see if it's just as capable off road, but if it isn't, it doesn't have any business being called a Range Rover.
We bet it's excellent.
