2014 Mazda6: Midsize Sedans Don't Have To Be Boring

The 2014 Mazda6 just "debuted" in Russia at the Moscow Auto Show. Everyone's already seen the car so the "debut" is sort of like a born-again virgin having sex again… for the first time! Still, we'd hit that.

Mazda took the Takeri concept and its "KODO" design language to make the new, smaller midsizer.

The current generation is a bit plain compared to the original and much beloved Mazda6. This new iteration appears to return the car to its mission of having the most fun in a boring segment.

Because it debuted in Moscow of all places, the details are Russia-specific. They get the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter available over here in both the Mazda3 and CX-5, and it's reasonable to assume we'll get the same car and its mix of the brand's stellar six-speed manual and decent six-speed automatic. Russians also get the 2.5-liter engine found in most of the Mazda line.

No mention of a V6, which just goes to show how forced-induction and direct-injection are making those engines increasingly obsolete.
