In the many years I have been studying the history of this sport, I have yet to note anyone saying anything even slightly unkind about the great Juan Manuel Fangio. El Maestro was the consummate gentleman and competitor; he treated his opponents with absolute respect even as he was driving stylish circles around them. After his career he remained affiliated with the sport, serving as one of its most appropriate ambassadors. When the comparison comes up, some will say that Schumacher and Fangio are near-equals in talent — but not as human beings.
