Texas is getting things moving on a new interstate highway, but thanks to its name, don't expect the signs to be around too long.
The state's transportation department voted today to begin erecting signs for the new I-69 route that starts at Texarkana and goes down to the border. This work is foreplay for future construction, as the signs are currently being raised along existing stretches of U.S. 77, I-37, and State Highway 44.
We have every expectation that vandals will steal most of these signs for the same obvious reasons people steal "Exit 69: Big Beaver Rd" signs from Metro Detroit's leg of I-75.
