Ferrari rear wing declared illegal by FIA

Ferrari was forced to change the rear wing on their cars for the remainder of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. International Automobile Federation (FIA) race director Charlie Whiting called the wing "a very clever interpretation of the rules" on Friday. Whiting told reporters it was up to the FIA "to decide whether we think it's a good interpretation of the rules".

A Ferrari team spokesman revealed this morning FIA had decided the wing was not a good interpretation of the rules and had declared it illegal. The ruling is a blow to the Ferrari team, currently third in overall standings ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, and Ferrari's double world champion Fernando Alonso, who will be racing in front of his home crowd on Sunday.
