JK-8 Independence is the DIY Jeep pickup

A factory Jeep pickup? Surely you've been reading our diary. Looks like Chrysler's parts division's making the Jeep pickup real, at least for those who can use tools. It's the Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence, which is similar to the Sarge.

The JK-8 preview comes courtesy of Chrysler's parts division, which is showing off the kit-modified show truck at the annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.

A set of body panel inserts mask the donor Wrangler Unlimited's rear doors, with everything behind the front seats removed to form a small rear cab and the 50" x 44" pickup box (width measured between the wheel wells).

The show truck also gets a Mopar/Dynatrac ProRock 44 front axle and stock Dana 44 rear, both with 4.88 gears, a 4.5-inch long-arm suspension kit and 37" BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 tires.

No pricing announced for the kit, which will come as a bolt-on package or in full-fab form for those with welding skills.
