BMW Vision Sportscar: A Plug-In Hybrid Bird Of PreyS

BMW's vision for the future now includes production of the plug-in hybrid sportscar originally shown as a concept last year. It'll even get a seemingly appropriate name — the BMW Vision.

Great news! BMW's going to produce a hybrid that actually looks like it's being built for enthusiasts. It'll be called the BMW Vision and as we told you last month, it's the production version of the Vision EfficientDynamics concept that saw its world premiere at last year's Frankfurt show. At just 1.24 metres high, the 2+2-seater takes BMW style to a new, more aerial level with gullwing doors designed to facilitate entry to both rows of seats.

The combination of a 3-cylinder turbo diesel with a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle enables an overall system output of 241 kW/328 bhp. That means this hybrid'll have performance numbers akin to a sports car, with a 0-to-62 time of just 4.8 seconds.

Not too shabby if you ask us.

There's also the fuel efficiency which is predictably predicted as high. BMW claims it'll have a range of 50 km on all-electric and, thanks to the big diesel tank, 650 km off the diesel powertrain.
