Did you know that Mulholland Drive was originally built to be a scenic road specifically designed for enthusiastic driving? No surprise then that a thriving street racing scene existed there until the police largely shut it down in the ‘80s.

This first short documentary comes from 1982 and tells the story of a Mulholland racing scene increasingly operating on the fringes of society.

And this, produced in 2006, is a look back at the history of racing on Los Angeles's most famous driving road. Don't be put off by the "Fun Run" that opens it, there's some seriously cool history to learn about.

It should go without saying, but please don't try any of this at home. We have proper race tracks for this sort of thing now. [via BulgogiBrothers]
