It didn't take long for B to answer our question with a defiant call for more of the manual transmission. Even though it's the oldest and simplest technology on the list, it's becoming more and more unlikely as an option in most new cars. Many of the features we want are the kind that give drivers more control and there's no more important piece of control than being able to choose your own gears. Though newer systems may claim they can compete in terms of speed and even fuel economy, nothing can compete with the feel.
