A man like Dieter is never content with just one barn full of cars and tools and gadgets. Less than a kilometer away from his shop, Dieter has his treasure barn. From the road it's so unassuming that you'd never know it could contain an 850Ci and a 440 Duster. In addition to those, there's at least an ancient Tatra, a pumped up BMW 2002, the skeletal (and really cool) remains of an Opel Speedster and a rack of about 50 various hoods for some reason. This is also where Dieter keeps the molds for a BMW M1 that's he's recreating. Oh yeah, that wooden frame upside down on the red car, that's the body frame for the BMW 328 we told you about earlier. This level of chaos in our own garage would drive us bonkers, but damn, this place is awesome.

The story goes the original owner of this wagon was dismayed to find that the Plymouth GTX came out just weeks after he purchased the mighty land yacht. So dismayed in fact he took it back down to the dealer and made them option it the same as a Belvedere-based Plymouth GTX coupe. A 440 with six-pack bolted to a 4-speed get the heavy moving in modern times. We found the wagon at the Hotchkis booth, serving as a platform for a new line of sport suspensions for Mopars coming next year. We swear the lines on these wagons drifted right off sixties top fuel slingshot dragsters - or F-104 Starfighters. Sport wagons, ho! More »

We were a little perplexed yesterday by the lack of cat scratching over engines when it came to the Charger/Challenger challenge. As we mentioned in the feature, our hands were up in the air and our shoulders shrugged. How do you choose? On the one hand you have mega-displacement in the form of the 440 Six Pack, which every pistonhead worth his salt knows there is no displacement for. On the other, what's 14 cubic inches? Besides that, like, Hemi! Besides sounding potent, all that complicated valve stem/rocker arm tomfoolery and massive cylinder heads make the Hemi 426 look bigger than any other engine (except for the 5.3-liter Jaguar V12, which is the most gigantic thing we've ever seen stuffed in an engine bay). Anyhow, Murilee and I were discussing the various merits and demerits of each and we reached the conclusion that you kind-hearted folks, our <s>rabid</s> dear readers, would have a whole hell of a lot to sayr. So, go for it. More »

We know; today is going to be rough. Ever since the 1970 Buick GSX 455 <s>robbed the Judge</s> edged out the other the other three GM big blocks for a spot in our Fantasy Garage there have been howls for 440 Six Packs, 426 Hemis and general Mopar R/T madness. Well friends, today is your feast. As always, caveat emptor, for we only have 50 parking spots in this Garage of ours. As worthy as both these mad machines are, only one is getting in. Since our first introduction to each car was via celluloid, we thought we'd employ the magic of Hollywood to plead each car's case. Yeah, exactly, we're talking Bullitt and Vanishing Point. Hey, it worked for the 450SEL 6.9. One final point, we know we're leaving out the 'Cudas. And we're sorry. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/311720/dodge-family-feud-charger-rt-vs-challenger-rt" title="Click here to read more about Dodge Family Feud: Charger R/T Vs. Leaving the New York Auto Show last week, several of the Jalops were approached by a enterprising Town Car driver. The gypsy-cabbie offered to bring us downtown for the princely sum of $45. Spinelli bid this soon-to-be-hapless hack to look for <s>another sucker</s> a guy with a carnation in his lapel to cough up the 45 bucks. Wrapping up the interaction was a final, unaccepted offer. Thus the name of this post. In this and future Eight Bucks posts, we'll find folks with cars for sale, who like the cabbie, may have become victims of their own overly enthusiastic enterprise. More »

With all of the attention given to '69 Chargers these days due to the Dukes of Hazzard hoopla, we felt it was time to focus on another historic Hollywood Mopar: It's got a cop motor
a four-hundred- and-forty cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks; it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. So what is it? A 1974 Dodge Monaco, of course. With the Bullitt Mustang and the Bandit's Trans Am, the Bluesmobile stands as a member of the Triumvirate of Filmic Car Chase Icons. And yes, we just made that up. Has a nice ring, tho, eh? Ah, if the policemen of Mt. Prospect, IL only knew what they'd given up. After all, all it needed was a new cigarette lighter. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/121799/cue-cant-turn-you-loose-and-floor-it-the-bluesmobile" title="Click here to read more about Cue "Can't Turn You Loose" and Floor It: The Bluesmobile">More »
