Holy cow, OMG, WTF — it's a real, live badge for the 2009 Ford Mustang! OK, we'll stop with the exclamations now. But why wouldn't we be excited — it's the 45th anniversary of the Mustang and, and, and — OK, we can't really figure out why we should be excited. Especially given we'll see an entirely new Ford Mustang less than one year later for the 2010 model year. Whatever, we salute Ford for 45 years of pony cars. At least they kept going with the muscular muscle cars even when no other 'merican automaker would. That took some guts — and we'll give 'em credit for that. However we'll still poke 'em for that big truck axle in the rear end. Speaking of credit, we're also going to give some credit to Mustang Evolution for pokin' fun at Ford with a snarky little comment on the new 'stangs looking a little thick around the waist. Way to be, guys! [Mustang Evolution]

so they revealed my new belt buckle.
where's this new badge you're talking about?
@NICKNICK: Belt buckle? That is going on my charm bracelet.
4" badge? Seriously? Even on the thick modern 'stang, that seems like it will look grossly oversized.
Overall, the horse looks as nice as ever, and I lke the idea, if not the aesthetic of the stylized horseshoe. I just don't care for the font of the "45".
They couldn't time the redesign to coincide with the 45th aniversary though? They should wait on the badge and put it on the (what would be) 2010 redesign, but call it a 2009 1/2. That would be a truer 45th, and allow them to use the badge on the release of the new pony, instead of the long-in-the-tooth current model. At least it will (probably) still beat the Camaro to market.
Maybe I need to get my eyes checked, but I keep seeing a Swastika, especially on the thumbnail version of the image.
If Ford North America wants to see past 2009 they better make a few more horseshoes to stick on or up things!
This is a joke, right? What a POS! Was this designed by Daewoo?
Huh, I thought the Mustang badge was always a small sticker that read "Don't tow vehicle from this point"
Stay golden pony, stay golden.
I feel sad whenever I see a sad sap driving a 2004 "40th anniversary" Mustang.
Maybe they should have used Eight Belles as a model for their horse. Considering the shape that Ford is in now, it would have been fitting......
It really ought to be the 41st Anniversary. I mean, nobody really counts the '74-'77 Mustang II do they? Maybe they're counting the SVO and SVT Mustangs twice.
I don't like the "Anniversary-edition-every-five-years" strategy played by most performance-vehicle-making companies; it makes one wonder if they even plan on having the car for five more years.
Ford should stop with all the special editions and wait 'til 50.
Wow! I sure hope they glue these all over the 4.oL V-6 car...
@graverobber- Same great taste, new low price!: The Mustang II went through 78. I know as I was the sorry sap driving a 78 with a 302 that blew up at 57K miles.....
Shouldn't the horseshoe be pointing downward? ;)
This symbolizes the pure magnetism of the that Iron Horse... err, sales...
@grzydj: Max Mosely Special Edition Mustang??
I kid.
wow.
"At least they kept going with the muscular muscle cars even when no other 'merican automaker would. That took some guts - and we'll give 'em credit for that."
cause it took guts to recycle the Pinto instead of taking the arguably gutsier (and far kinder) move to smother the Mustang II in its demonic crib?
At least they kept it simple and tasteful.
FMSEBBQ! (Ford Mustang Special Edition BBQ)
This isn't any different from the 40th Anniversary car which was the last of the Fox bodies. It's just bigger. If they make it to 100 years, it'll just be a rolling badge
@Maymar: Although 2004 was the last year of the Fox-based chassis, 1993 was the last true Fox body.
Hey look it's the Indianapolis Broncos...they're my favorite team

@OldeEnglishD: You're absolutely correct. I was thinking that the fox-based Stang came out in '78, but it was '79. Thanks for the correction, and sorry about your Mustang II hand grenade!
Alas, that horse looks more like a mule--look how his face is as long as his neck. You don't really see that on horses.
