Ford Recalls 655,000 F-150 Pickups To Fix Hose Problem

No, not that kind of Toby Keith hose problem — the only way to fix that problem is with Viagra. And really, that doesn't fix it, it just makes the problem a bit more hard. No, what we're really talking about is Ford recalling more than 655,000 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT pickup trucks to fix some bad brake hoses in...

...2005-2006 versions of the pick-me-up equipped with the 5.4-liter engine. 600,000 of the trucks are in the United States and around 50,000 are in Canada. The rest? Who knows? Zimbabwe, maybe? Although Ford says there have been 11 minor accidents, no injuries have been tied to the issue. Except maybe Toby Keith's ego. Well, maybe that's more a problem with this post than the actual recall.

  • told you before my fellow americans, & i tell you now again...

forget patriotism for a minute... & go DITCH Ford USA, & Fuck it down to HELL!!!

then... after that, & hopefully destroying all F-Truck lines & designs... pray for Ford Europe to start exporting good & cool cars to the west side of the pond!

  • @J-2-da-B:
Oh yeah? Where do think the money for the new Mondeo came from?

  • Oh no. What are Darrell and Darrell going to say about this?

  • @Parkington: Ford of Europe's booming profits???

    Ouch, ford.

  • Somewhere there is an executive in Dearborn saying the following things into a phone:

"Hey man, we called it wrong. We're not omniscient."

"We did run the #'s-we figured we could kill at least 10 or 11 people, maybe even a few pets before it got serious"

"yeah, people are so whiny, you can't make a few million vehicles without some mistakes. Just live with it, stuff happens. ……… Oh, I gotta go, the Gulfstream is waiting, I gotta' run, I gotta' go meet some Union pricks, they are whining about health care again and it's gonna f*ck up my trip to Aspen too."

  • Brake hoses are alot more important then tailgates.

that being said i love my tundra. no problems to date

  • No homo

    Note to self
    Better call
    My local FORD dealer
    Cuz I got a recall
    My F-150
    It just won't stop
    Note to self
To call GM about doing a Chevy Spot

  • @J-2-da-B: I think that's a little unrealistic.

For example... if the given Ford F-series is used as a tow truck, show me a single Ford of Europe car that can be used as a direct substitute.

What we really need are those Ford of Europe diesel engines.

However, I would be in favour of deep-sixing the NA Focus for the Euro Focus.

and if you pushed fast enough you can make
    the other side....

    mama come quick
    i think i fell...
    and hurt myself again
    pushin that effin truck
    mama you know too well...
how much I still depend on you
    pickin me up
    and helpin me pay off...
    repairs almost everyday...
    cause nothin' heals my Ford...
    as good as your Mastercard...

  • Ford: We are AS good as Toyota.

    Well almost.

  • @Buckster:

I believe Toyota recently recalled a ton of cars, or was it Nissan, or whoever. It happens.

It's just less print worthy than picking on Toby and Ford here.

  • What's Murilee Martin doing in that pic with the guitar?

  • I really really hope those parts weren't made in China.

  • @rlj676: True, I am just pissed that Ford to proud to be "as good as" Toyota. Next time maybe they should shoot a bit higher.

  • @Buckster:

I see Honda as the leader, but the general perception is Toyota is king. It's all statistically very close in the short term anyways, and long term is tougher to gauge improvements.

Warranty spending though is hugely improved.

  • I just keep staring at the "and Lincoln Mark LT". So im guessing 649,945 F series and the 55 Lincolns they gave away.

"Mommas, don't let your babies grow up to be pitchmen..."

  • Get my new mix tape: "Crash Here Tonight" followed by "A Little Too Late"

  • Interestingly enough, the F 150 plant in Norfolk, VA.
closed in 2007. I'm just sayin'

    Norfolk High school cheer;
    We don't smoke!
    We don't drink!
    Norfolk,Norfolk!

  • Built Ford Tough.

Oh... and what's with Toby Keith pulling a Bono with those giant glasses? Douchebag.

  • Bad brake lines might be a problem, but it is a Ford. You have to start it up first and put it in gear for the brake lines to fail. Thats hard enough for a Ford already.

  • this isn't that big of a deal. I worked at a ford garage ALLL ford cars before a certain date had to have a speed control sensor replaced because the brake fluid would leak out of it. Not only draining the fluid, but also catching fire.

  • Hosed? We got hosed on our last F350. Crappiest, weakest transmission ever. lots more engine than the transmission could handle. Filled the bed with hay bales, dropped it into Low and BANG .... blew up the tranny. At 8,000 miles. Dealer said we were using the truck outside it's design limits. Avg bale weight was around 80 lbs and we had about a dozen on board. Took months before my pal the lawyer stepped in and spoke Lawyer-ese to Ford. We exchanged trucks, which I promptly sold and got a Dodge. And I've loved my Ford trucks since my first '66.

  • @BlackFlag55:
They're only trying to match Toyota's quality. ;-)

  • Wow, you're right Parkington, they really did nail the Toyota quality thing right on the head.

I've seen so many new Tundras with a rear brakelight not working. The only other car I've seen have the same problem so frequently is the new Mustang . . . coincidence?

I'm still waiting to see a Tundra being used for actual work . . . so far the closest I've seen is some pompous project manager type person driving up to a work site with no intention of hauling anything but himself.

  • toby keith......
    eww.
what did country & western do, to deserve him?

  • The recall epidemic is across all manufacturers. Ford, GM, Toyota, Volkswagen... They've all had their share of recalls. I understand that some can't be avoided, some things just happen, but then there are others that are just plain negligent.

To see this recall in greater detail visit:

  • @DionDege: What year Tundra?

Assuming a 2005, were the following 5 items checked?
    - ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM
    - AIR BAGS:ON-OFF SWITCH ASSEMBLY
    - AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
    - EXTERIOR LIGHTING
    - SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT

There's outstanding recalls on all of those for this model year. I seem to recall (Pun!) an electrical issue at the back of the extended cab but can't find it...

    [www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov]

That said, and having worked on the F-150 during development, I can't say that it's better than the Tundra.

Just pointing out that Toyota owners typically have better impressions of their vehicles than reality.

  • Like I said before, all companies have had recalls in some form or another. If a vehicle hasn't been recalled yet I'd say give it time.

So taking that into account the best thing you can do is buy a vehicle that does what you require of it and when the recall hits, and it will, take care of it at that point.

  • @SeanKHotay:

assuming only makes an ass out of you not me.

as you can tell from my profile pic. i have an 07 tundra. there has been no problems on my specific vehicle. before this i had an 01 tundra with 150,000 miles on it. it was a work truck, only had 1 O2 sensor problem, and 1 front passenger side ball joint, which had been recalled and replaced.

non-toyota owners typically live in a false reality where they believe toyota products arent as good as they actually are.

  • @SeanKHotay: additionally, there has only been 1 recall for the '07 tundra, the driveline on 4x4's and mine was checked and problem free. no cost. and the dealer gave me a loner tundra so i could continue working that day. which i used in full like my own tundra. a work truck
