Ferrari GT Coming in 10 Days, 23 hours

Ferrari-F149-Sneak.jpgThe buzz machine for the pending Ferrari F149 just got a lot louder. A teaser website for the pending prancing pony which is apparently now called the Ferrari GT just went up and it's not only touting the time line for our first look, but also gives a specific countdown —10 days, 23 hours as of this printing 20 minutes — AND engine noises (swoon), AND a look at what we're assuming is the door handle. Hold onto you butts folks cause it's probably going to be a Ferrari GT love-fest for the next 10 days. [FerrariGT Countdown]

  • From what has been said about it,it's meant to be an entry level Ferrari,a bit like buying an entry level Mansion

  • Sweet filthy goodness... That site should win an academy award. What a weekend starter!

  • I wonder if they'll have pictures of it in red?

I have to admit... I tinkled at the first rev.

    Warrmmm Honey... Mmmmm.....

  • That is a sweeeeet sound

  • Can we also get a countdown web site to the first Fiero-based Ferrari GT abomination?

I thought that was the countdown for the first required engine rebuild.

  • @layabout: I don't think it is supposed to be entry level.

  • @j6r: Just going on what i have read,it's going to be cheaper than the 430,i maybe wrong as i guess it's all speculation. But it will probably get in my fantasy garage

  • ooooooohhhh aaahhhhh OH.

  • Yay! Fewer than 11 days until a re-bodied Maser-Alfa is re-badged yet again! Can't wait. I hope they do an Autobianchi version of this one, maybe a Siata, definitely a Lnacia (Which they should certainly badge as the Aurilia. How else to totally ruin a revered name?) Fiat should just go ahead and call it the A-body.

  • Well i just took a few of those sounds and they are now my ringtones ;-)

  • @bruxell: Seriously? Because a sexy-hot, slightly lower priced, front-engined Ferrari is a bad idea? THAT devalues the name? Not the theme park in Dubai? Or the Acer computers?

Think about it for a second.

  • So if the official press release comes in 10 days, when do the leaks start?

  • Guys, if there was a time to break an embargo...now's your chance.

  • @drewdrawsPooh: I've learned that a lot of folks around here are happy with NOTHING new and definitely NOTHING different. If they could have it their way, automakers would be frozen in 19XX and would only be allowed to make one version of one car that they drive or saw once in 19XX. Any progress of change in any way is an affront to all that is just and decent.

  • @DustyButt: I agree. Some of the commenters on here just blow my mind sometimes. This car is one of the only things Ferrari has done recently that doesn't devalue its brand, and, if FIAT wants to redesign and rebrand the Ferrari GT as a Lancia Aurelia, that seems to me like it would be the first good move they've made for that division since the Stratos.

  • Check out the 'Feel'--about 66 days, or (if I'm calculating properly) around July 14. I'm assuming that will be a physical debut at some event. Any thoughts?

  • It's going to be totally unreliable, completely impractical, and mind-bogglingly expensive. And while it will be glorious to drive, we all know that most of them will be purchased by collectors and rich snobs who couldn't take a corner if it was gift-wrapped with their name on it.

To be quite honest, at this point I believe the sole purpose of Ferrari is to give Jeremy Clarkson funny things to talk about.

  • @adb: Yeah, that's when I'm gonna go Dragon on it.

  • @drewdrawsPooh: Actually, I think it devalues the Alfa name more than anything... But yeah, Ferraris, Maseratis Astons, Lamborghinis, these are not cars that should be sharing platforms. I understand that the business of making exclusive cars is harder than it was thirty years ago, and that sharing platforms makes certain global certification easier, but I hate it, and yes it devalues all the names involved by detracting from the unique brand values of each marque. I've thought about it for more than a second, while this isn't as bad for Ferrari as some of the things you've mentioned, it's bad, and it's worse for Alfa and Maserati because it makes it look as if they're just re-badged... which they are at this point. It's just sad. Think about it for a little more than a second.

  • @bruxell: Sharing parts in order to make sportscars has been going on forever. Platform or engine sharing does not devalue ALL Ferraris, it only devalues (and by that, I mean makes cheaper) this particular model. These are not rebadged cars, these are bespoke creations that share some unseen bits of pressed aluminum and an engine block. It's also not bad for Alfa or Maserati, because they get higher quality cars than they've had for 35 years that look great, sound incredible, and go like hell. Frankly, Maserati has been one shitbucket after another, some with Citroen engines for christ's sake, since the early 70s. The Gran Turismo is not.

I suppose AC Cobras suck too because they use Ford engines. Or the McLaren F1 because it used a BMW V12. Get real.

You make it sound like Ferrari is platform sharing with the Fiat Multipla. That would be a problem, but this is not. Did the original Dino or the 308/328 devalue Ferrari? No, it boosted it (Even Enzo came to that conclusion). And I'm pretty damned sure this will do the same thing.

  • Enh. Sounds alright.

This is the first time Ferrari has ever used such fancy marketing. Hell, up until three-ish years ago, Ferrari was too cool to even have a functioning website.

I smell marketing exercise more than I do car. Otherwise, they wouldn't be teasing us as though this was BMW.

That site is almost NSFW. Almost.

(Although I still more dearly love the basso profundo of a great big old V8.)

  • Here's a crazy idea that's been bugging me. What if the leaked name of F149 means that it's a 1.4 liter V8 hybrid (8+1). Maybe using the new flywheel tech from the F1 car. Now that would turn the supercar world on its ear.

  • Jeez it shifts pretty damn fast, just listen to "Release." Is going to use the Scuderia transmission?
