For Mustang-loving fan boys, we're thinking the above first glimpse of the headlight design on the 2010 Ford Mustang is the equivalent of a celeb crotch-shot. So what can we tell from this new spy photo from KGP? Well, it looks like — well — like nothing Giugiaro made. Full report from the sneaky spies of KGP below.
We just caught our first uncovered look at the headlight design destined for the 2010 Mustang. Past prototypes have hinted at a little chrome trim residing behind the headlight camouflage, and now we can see what was truly lurking behind the disguise. While the overall grille layout still appears to take some inspiration from the Giugiaro Mustang concept, it's now clear that the headlights are going their own, retro way.

Whoa I can tell the next stang is going to be nice...seriously I like the detail on the chrome surrounding the turn signal.
I like the detail around the turnsignal! this next stang should be cool
It evokes the two vents alongside the headlight on the 1970 Mustang, only inside out.

There is actually a fully revealed 2010 Mustang on the June cover of Car and Driver. I didn't get a chance to the read the article yet, so I am not sure if it is an official shot, or still speculation.
what is up I post once and nothing happens so i post again and I double post! sorry guys.
Wasn't the last Mustang to have turn signals in the grill the Mustang II? I hope that's not the retro look they're shooting for.
It does look dangerously '70s.
Chrome detail. Styling. These things will prevent this car from looking like a huge plastic toy, like the current crop of retro ponies.
@FrankGrimes: Have you had a chance to read our "Commenting With Class" post from earlier?
@wookie1901: Yeah, that wasn't really the new 'stang on the cover of Motor Trend.
Is it me or does that exactly like the driving lights on an e46 bmw...
Ouch. I just realized what it reminds me of.
I really wish Ford would paint the mirrors on their cars. Is it too much to ask?
@Ray Wert: Is that a hint from somebody who has seen more than he can tell before the next great embargo break? (I don't read or follow car mags, so I haven't seen the cover)
Those headlights have potential, I don't mind the integrated look.
I have found that many, if not most, mid-cycle refresh styling choices are for the worst. It frequently results in the incongruently mis-matched look reminiscent of a boob job on Phyllis Diller.
The Mustang, much like many other coupes, seems to fall out of fashion more rapidly than other categories of vehicles. Glad to see Ford isn't going to face the Camaro, Genesis Coupe, Challenger, et al with a 5-year-old design. I just hope it doesn't end up looking like lipstick on a pig.
where do they took the inspiration???
cough cough cough...

it will look good...!!!
It's a retro 73 Maverick Grabber!
@Stuntdriver: I agree.
Say hello to Toby Halicki's original Eleanor.
@Schweppes: I got my June issue of Car & Driver in today's mail. Sho'nuff, the '10 'Stang is on the cover. I am sure the esteemed Mr. Wert has been sitting on his hands before he can drop, but if I've got it in today's mail, drop day's gotta be real soon...
I hope those become HIDs
man i wish my internet on my computer worked so i can take a closwe look at that headlight.
@DannyBN:
So don't front, MC Ren
'Cause I remember when you drove
A B-210
I wish someone could just catch the car when it's parked one day, rip off the cover, take some shots, and run off. It would only take like 5 minutes.
Oh, and speaking of the latest issue of Care & Driver, the ads for the Acura TSX within do not impede and interfere with my page-turning...
Unlike the Flash-based ones we all suffered through here earlier this week...
@charles_barrett: Care = Car
@charles_barrett: Some of us are still suffering because of them -- or whatever javascript crap it installed on our server.
And in 2012, they can go for the "fuselage-inspired" Mustangs of original-Eleanor vintage! It's a shame Larry Shinoda's dead.
@Ray Wert: I tried uninstalling Flash, and it still wouldn't go away.
@Ray Wert: Yah... my page-loads and cursor movements are way-slow as well. Nothing like giving the gift that keeps on giving... like genital herpes...
Looks like a '70s Aston Martin V8.
*rimshot*
Yeah, okay, it's really cool. Still working the retro angle, but in an excellent way. Good stuff.
@Ray Wert:It's not his fault the TSX adds gave the hamsters LSD...
@RoninianHoon: They only as a memorial to Dr. Hoffman.
Eventually these retro designs will catch up to the 80's and well have Mustangs rolling around with 4 bangers and 80's style rear lights. Awesome!
@dantheman1000: With gas prices what they are, I can't say I'd complain at this point.
@Novaload: "They only as a memorial to Dr. Hoffman."(sic)
Speaking of Herr Doktor Hofmann's passing and LSD, as an undergrad at Caltech, I was told that there was a variety of LSD named "Lloyd", after the undergraduate dormitory on campus that housed its inventor(s).
Having never tripped on acid myself, I nevertheless tip my glass of gin in Herr Doktor's name, as he had only the noblest intentions, and paved the way for a synthesis that has immortalized my alma mater in drug lore.
I think the cover of Car and Driver is speculation. However, I do see a lot in common with the headlight adn C and D's cover. Hopefully, Ford continues evolving the design and it doesn't become stagnant. Ford seems like they're on the right track. On another note, here's an illustration a member named Josh of carspyshots.net created of the Taurus (imagine the photo but less fuzzy).

i hope the early pictures of the restyled Stang's taillights aren't as accurate as the headlight ones apparently were...
@M0L0TOV: looks like Mondeo + Falcon, with a bit of Interceptor thrown in... very nice.
@smokyburnout: Yeah, if you look at the fuzzy camera pic that was revealed a bit ago, it's more or less the same thing, just illustrated. Just imagine that with a chrome grill and I think this is what we're gonna get in 2010.
They look a bit narrower, which hopefully translate into a sleeker design, closer to the original 05 concept. This could either turn out to be really great or go horribly wrong. I still prefer the 94-98 cars over the 99-04.
The new Mustang will be a nice evolution of the current one.
Gag.
There is an event at WHQ for employees and retirees to see the '10 Mustang and MKZ...today? They have to sign a confidentiality statement before getting in.
@thomas124: Yeah, we'd heard that too. Come on guys, let's work on getting us some camera phone shots, k?
@dantheman1000: If that means an Eco-Boost SVO, I'm in.
@Ray Wert:
Either way there can't be much wait for the MKZ to show up somewhere as it goes on sale early next year.
Did we really expect the Giugiaro concept to become a reality? I mean wouldn't that be like Ford admitting they can't design nice looking cars? I'd be surprised if this thing looked anything like the Giugiaro concept. (I wouldn't mind being surprised)
