Having driven both the Audi R8 and the Audi Q7, we have to say that although we enjoy driving both, Iron Man Director and Producer Jon Favreau goes a little over the top talking about these two beautiful babies. Yes indeed folks, the theatrical release of Iron Man is just days away and the marketing machine is kicking into full swing. Since Audi is a major sponsor of the film, we get to see two different videos where the men in charge of the movie blab on about how great the cars are. Well, great for driving, but perhaps not for filming because apparently they couldn't get the Q7 to lock its brakes or do a burnout. Oh — and they couldn't destroy the R8 in the way they'd initially wanted to. Destroy an R8 in a huge conflagration? Not a chance if Audi and their big check have anything to say about it. Only they can do that to the R8. Double video action below the fold, and possible ending or alternate ending spoilers.

Great for driving? In what horrible universe is not being able to disable the nanny controls good for driving? Bah.
I wonder what the return on investment will be for Audi? I'm not even bothering to see this movie, but I'm sure it will be a blockbuster. Come to think of it, I think I'll wait until Blockbuster carries it!
Reviews are solid so far. Still not really appealing to me...never really got into any of the superhero movies.

I saw this movie Monday at a screening and LOVED it. To be honest, While Tony Stark drives the Audi, its not a major character in the movie...so I am Assuming there will be cross promotion involved. I know they are displaying an R8 along with the Ironman suit at the Arclight theater in Hollywood this week.
Really, the R8 should be driven by Aluminumman.
I love how far Favreau will go to use practical effects. I hope everyone learned as much from Eps. I-III.
(But I don't think Lucas did - based on the trailer, Indy 4 looks pretty CGI-heavy).
@TheTooth: The lack of burnout ability sucks, but there aren't any cars (or any reasons) I know of for disabling ABS.
@dculberson: Depends on the ABS. There are some systems out there that cycle so slowly, and/or enter "ice-mode" at inopportune times so the hot (but slightly against the rules) ticket in autocrossing is to pull the fuse on the ABS. I'm showing how long it's been since I competed, but this was true of the early Neon ACR's and the Miata's, for instance.
But, that shouldn't be a problem in an R8.
Make that "was" in place of "is". I can no longer be trusted for current interpretations of autocrossing.
@dculberson: One word: "Hoonability"
Not the least bit surprised. I had an S4 when I lived in Colorado and I would blow by any and every SUV and crap 4 wheel drive car on the way. Never once in the heaviest snow did I come close to slipping or any real loss of traction.
On the way to the mountains that is.
R8s has been popping up in TV shows too. One was in an episode of CSI: Miami and another is the main character's car in every episode of Dirt. Every time I see one I stop paying attention to what is going on and just stare.
@TheTooth: Oh, definitely. I meant as far as driving performance goes, not fun. Fun dictates all nannies be turned off.
@milo_carrera: Very good point. Some older ABS systems were wretched. Hopefully that's not the case on an R8!!
@rochec: While driving your car, that is.
I saw the R8 at Comic con last year, complete with "Stark" license plate. Sexy as hell and good to see they didn't crush all of the cars given to them during the movie.
@Spideyrex: Yeah, outside of the hotel. I didn't put the plate to the movie till I got back to L.A.
@boosted-lego-wagon: And his sidekick, Schteelboy!
Couldn't they just pull the fuse for the ABS?
Seriously I wanted to see this now when I hear they tortured numerous R8s I'm not so keen.
God is angry and many kittens will die.
