Retired? Living in Florida? Coach Builders Inc. has the car for you. Perhaps tired of seeing our treasured senior citizens driving around in those awful Sebring verts, the company now offers a conversion that chops the top off the popular Cadillac CTS. While GM is planning a 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe and CTS Wagon, CBI is giving the well-aged people exactly what they want. Of course, getting what you want always comes with a price.
In this case, the cost of replacing the roof with full convertible top and living your sun-touched dreams is $19K over the price of the car. For this you get the hydraulic padded roof that includes such touches as a heated glass rear window. Conversion time is 8 weeks so you'd better have some time on your hands as well as an extra stash of green. The best features is that the car retains its four doors, something rare for a convertible in this class. [CBI via InsideLine]

Nothing says luxury like Boss 301 wheels from the nearest discount tire shop.
Nevermind the structural integrity of the conversion, that thing looks damn good.
Cowl shake nothing. The driver's just having a stroke.
That's actually kinda awesome, a modern phaeton.
Could it possibly be even better than the last 4-door Cadillac ragtop I saw? 100% convincing and realistic-looking!
I guess when you're tired of your 300C Helios, nuthin beats a caddy... and it's marginally better than the fake "cabriolet" tops I've seen.
I checked out CBI's webpage, and the DTS conversion actually looks quite good...not so much the 300C...but still...
It's beautiful. Cadillac, take notice
"rare for a car in this class"? what other 4-door convertibles are there period? (disclaimer: i'm sure there are a few)
I mean, you could say a hummer is, or a wrangler unlimited is, but what else?!
What kind of convertible are old people supposed to drive these days? If Cadillac and Lincoln and Buick don't make one who does? And no, the sebring doesn't count. And the Lexus SC thing is just too awful for words.
I'm a big fan of the CTS but you better have money to burn because you are not going to recoup that $19,000.
@Number_Six: Oh yeah, resale not a big concern...
Booooo, give me a Merc any day over this.
@teargas: Solaras, of course.
certainly someone out there could beat that price AND turnaround time?
@Sloop_John_B: The slight chrome curve at the top of the doors really does it. The taught-ness (tension?) of the CTS' styling is more apparent without the roof.
@Number_Six:
Only a concern for your children, or whomever inherits it as most customers down there will not be outliving it.
@teargas - I'll need to agree with Adamskiy that the Toyota Solara is the official convertible for the AARP crowd, followed closely by the Sebring (usually obtained from Enterprise Auto Sales). It's been rough for them ever since GM stopped producing the Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible in 1995.
@Unregular: I could...
You didn't mention quality though.
Cadillac CTS-DNR Edition
That actually looks better as a droptop. In fact, it looks great.
Hello, Caddy? You might want to take notes on this.
I love that! But not the rims.
The reason there are so few four-door convertibles is that it's hard to make a folding roof that big - which explains the hefty price tag on this one. Also, torsional stiffness and side impact crash resistance are severely compromised when you chop off the B pillars.
@Unregular: Red Green. Anybody with a Sawzall.
That being said, couldn't we just throw the front and rear from a Cadillac BLS on a Saab 9-3 convertible? It hasn't fooled Europe, but it might work on old people in Florida.
I'm with the "that's totally sweet" crowd on this one. I love four-door convertibles. I wonder if a CTS-V would twist itself in half after this conversion?
Someone give me $19k and a CTS-V to help find out.
That's the only time I want to see "topless" and "old people" used in the same paragraph.
Does it come with a replica of Jack Klompus' space pen?
you really have to be careful when getting into a caddy these days -

I love the redundant name -
"Coach Builders Limited, Inc." - just pick one form of incorporation already, overachievers.
it looks great

Conversion will cost more than the vehicle you can get from ebay, but then you only have a 1 year/ 12,000 mile warranty.
Can we get some info on extended warranty for something like this?
Then there's this guy with a CTS-V going with a cracked block.
If you scroll down the photos you'll see one that says "Rear Seat (very little use)"
Which invariably leads to this photo:
@skulldriveshaft:\
thank you assface. ^^^^
Just kidding, im a polite and upstanding citizen and poster with proper eticate.
But seriously... lil big dere.
