The Hillman Hunter was the Chrysler Europe machine that eventually became the Iran Khodro Paykan (and was related to many other British cars of its time). In 1970, Australians could buy themselves a rally-ized version called the Hustler, equipped with a twin-carb 1725cc engine, four-speed box, and one of the most bongo-riffic Sideburn Era ads we've ever seen. Here comes Hustler!

Looks like the prerunner to the Hemi Charger from down under.
this commercial cannot be any more 70's than it already is
The Lord Humungous outhustles the Hustler
If Chrysler still has that copyright, they should use the hustler name on a special edition 300.
In Europe, the Hillman Hunter was available with a 120-horse version of the 1725cc motor. It was modified by Holbay, which had a lot of experience with the Chrysler Europe (nee Rootes Group) engine, and it had dual Weber 45DCOEs rather than the Stromberg CD150s this car seems to use. That's the one that won the London-Sydney rally. I'm pretty sure it'd outhustle the Hustler. I want one.
There's also a fab'n'groovy fastback, the Sunbeam Rapier H120.
It was allegedly engineered to take the 289 Windsor from the Tiger, but that was shitcanned when Chrysler took over. That's a PCH project.
I'd never be caught dead with 1725 ccs of single carb action, but make it dual carb, and I am all over it.
@al_beaton: Oh man, I would be all over stickin' some V8 in that...
Hi Guys.... WOW an advert for the UNIQUELY Australian Hillman Hustler.. These cars are SO RARE now... There is only one KNOWN drivable, original HUSTLER left. I am lucky enough to have one of these cars, and it will be many years till I completely restore it.
The comment above about the H120 (holbay) engines having 45DCOE weber carbs is incorrect...they haD 40dcoe CARBS...None of these Holbay engines were made availble in Australia...I imported one from the UK for my Sceptre MARK 3. (which was also privately imported to Australia.
Yes, the HUSTLER had 2 150 cds stromberg carbs, not like Cowan's Car with the pair of 40DCOE webers.
the colour schemes of the Hustler are a match of the VG Valiant PACER with the same grille, steering wheel and headlights included.
Dont ya just gotta love the bongo intro!!!! what a fantastic find this ad is. Bloody brilliant!!!!

Effective little ad--though a bit hard to believe that the ladies are stopping in their tracks gawking at this plain little guy.
First car I ever drove was a Hillman Hunter estate. I have an unnatural affinity for these and think the Hustler is teh sex. I need help.
Notice how 70's Australian voice-over dudes almost sound American?
I think I just sprouted a turtleneck from watching that.
I need to redownload Life On Mars.
Twin Carb = too cheap for Twin Cams, still wants "TC" labels
@Number_Six: Hunters are awesome!! Rust is the only enemy the little Hunter ever had.....well, that and bottomed-out resale values. People with common sense, kept their Hunters until the seats fell thru the floor!
I remember that ad from when I was a kid, it's great to see it again!
