Our intrepid road test editor Wes Siler was really looking forward to this week out in California. He'd lined up a Lotus long-lead drive and was planning on spending a few hours on the track taking some sharp corners and fast straights. Then he decided it made sense to spend a few hours in the Cali backwoods behind the handlebars of some little girl's bike a Yamaha. Normally for Wes, as you can see in the above photo, that's just a relaxing afternoon. Except yesterday wasn't so relaxing as he took a bit of a tumble and broke a bone or two in his left arm — in a couple of places. Never fear, he's in good spirits, and the surgery to fix the arm is complete, but for the next couple of months the only seat time he'll be getting is on a merry-go-round at Coney Island. We're looking forward to having him back on his feet in a couple of days, and behind the wheel again in a couple months, but if you were looking forward to part three of his 2008 Honda Accord Coupe review or part two of his 2009 Honda Pilot review, sadly you may have to wait a few days. But, feel free to berate him leave your well-wishes in the comments below. We know he'd love to respond first hand, but since he's only got one of those to type with he'll at least be reading them in between visits from SoCal candy stripers and warm sponge baths.

Get well soon, ya sissy.
Rubber side DOWN, Wes.
Ouch!
That's a tough break, Wes.
(Are we sure it wasn't one of the automakers he reviewed?)
I'm glad he's okay and knowing that and being a fellow biker I think I can safely add
Shiny side UP!
I just purchased a little girls bike too (DRZ-400-SM), so I'll likely be joining you in a couple of weeks.
In the mean time, get healed up.
I'm sorry for your loss of bones that are in the correct number of pieces. This post makes me wonder why the struck-out text is so popular but I can't get it to work in comments.
There go the Yamaha advertising bucks!
Get well soon Wes
Best wishes, and hopefully they gave you some good shit for the pain.
@Skydiver:
LOL.... Po-tay-toe, po-tot-oh.
That's a pretty impressive lean angle on (what looks like) a rain soaked road.
Heal up, Mr. Siler. Otherwise, how will I know that I don't want a Honda Pilot?
Buck up, little camper. Rub some dirt on it and get back out there.
I bet you couldn't do that in the Accord...
Get well soon.
Do they make training wheels that big???
Get Well!
I hope you didn't flail that arm. Boy does that sting and look gross. Rehab well, Mr Siler.
I'm expecting a full three-day review of the merry-go-round at Coney Island.
so... if you own a motorcycle, you are GOING to crash it at some point, yeah?
Did Honda send out the Yakuza after Wes?
Those guys in that tailgating Isuzu truck sabotaged your bike!
Glad you're on the mend Wes.
Hope the arm you broke wasn't the one that got all the action, if you know what I mean.
SoCal candy stripers and warm sponge baths? Of all those years living in SoCal, I've never heard of those things. Not good ones, anyway.
Oh... I can't wait for the conclusions on those Honda's, they are exciting cars for sure.
Glad to hear the injuries weren't weren't worse.
Wes, make sure the docs line up the broken pieces correctly. And remember, any spill you can walk away from, wasn't really serious at all. Get well.
@rlj676:
double negative was unintentional, damn lack of edit button.
If Wes is back by the end of the week, does that make him eligible for Workhorse Editor of the Day?
You should try to get to Hoag Hospital if you are close enough... They have nice rooms with ocean views.
Fell off of my bike
The shattering sound of bones
Morphine is the shit
Thanks for causing a SIG alert Wes! Love ya, mean it!
For your sake I hope you're a switch hitter, Wes. If not, you could always make a trip up the 405 to the Valley for some assistance. Get better soon.
Don't tell me it hurts if you can't show me a bone. Just shut up and ride.
Seriously, I've been there Wes and I wish you a speedy recovery. Michelin Pilot 2CTs will cure what ails you next time.
Four wheels, good
Two wheels, bad!
Speedy recovery and yadda yadda yadda of course.
@cyclopticgaze: I was hoping for a three-day review of the candy stripers, myself. Get Better Wes!
Wes, I wish you quick healing.
Once you're in the mood, I wonder if you could review what happened to cause this, as well as a rundown of the response of any other motorists and or emergency services to the accident? Besides rubbernecking, that is.
This is what I've just come back from. Bike vs. car last May.

Damn! I can never seem to remember which code to use.

We can has pictchas of teh pritty nurses?
Having just learned to ride last year, the first thing everybody told me was:
Its not if you fall but when. And I follwed that up with a broken collar bone a few months later. Get well, and get back on.
@Unregular:
Yes. There are two kinds of riders. Those who have crashed and those who will. I'm in the former category. There's another two kinds of bikers as well; those who forget to put their feet down at stops and tip over, and liars. I am in this former category as well...
Get well soon, Wes. Get back in the saddle as soon as you can, your bike'll miss you.
@CafeRacer1200: Hey! I have one of those too! Did you separate your shoulder?
I did that to my shoulder on the 4th of July, on a pedal bike... Went to leave one party to head to another (riding a bike was safer than driving drunk, yes alcohol was of course involved)... I went to do the whole "wheelie-start" to leave, twisted the bars at the top of the wheelie and never twisted them back... put them down, flipped over and heard my shoulder go CRUNCH, and then the back came over and hit me in the head... not good times, bad times...
Was back at work within a week and a half as a bartender... on the slow bar in the back of the club of course, but i was working...
He was probably out there letting it all hang out trying to get the stench of "family car" off himself.
My best crash was out on the trails when I was still young enough to heal. I high sided my XR at about 40 and got flung to the ground.
For those that may not know, high siding is when you are leaned over taking a curve or corner then the tires catch excessive traction and flip you over the "high side" of the bike. Most of the force drives you straight into the ground. Not a lot of sliding about generally. Sort of like a trebuchet into the earth.
It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop.
So I'm riding the 15 miles of trails or so back to camp and every time I hit a bump or move wrong there's a blinding pain in my shoulder.
Ah put a little ice on it, drink some beer, you'll be okay nancy boy. I finish off the rest of the night partying at the camp site and at one point even go get 2 x 5 gallon containers of water because it's my turn.
I had to crawl out of my tent the next morning using my one good arm. My left was immobile and in searing pain. The kind that makes your ears ring. I waited about 90 minutes for someone else to wake up and take me to the hospital.
I had fractured my clavicle and 5 ribs. Kind of ruined the bike trip so we had to take our '67 2WD Chevy C-10 four-wheeling instead (standard w/no power steering natch). But that's another story.
I've always maintained that you really don't have to know how to ride a motorcycle but it's real important to know how to crash one.
@BSAKat: I'm in the latter category of both.
It seems that there are more two-wheelers here than I thought, and we all wish you well.
So what kind of health insurance does Jalopnik have?
I've laid more than a few bikes down in my life, and it's never fun.
Get well soon, Wes, and don't stop riding!
I hope you didn't bruise that fine ass of yours Wes, I have such fond memories of it... http://jalopnik.com/342158/2008-ford-taurus-x-day-two
@iamverb: You mean, based on ride comfort, fun-to-drive and handling?
@mytdawg: My father broke his clavicle and 5 ribs this past weekend... In his Taurus!
He was on the way to trade it in and get an Explorer (can't talk him out of it), when he lost control in the rain (tires were bald) and hit a tree backwards at 60...
His jewish side (for real, he is actually Jewish... and I am for the jokes) kicked in when I spoke to him on Sunday... He said he was happy because he was going to get $6200 from the dealer for the trade in, but is now going to get $8100 from insurance, so he can put more towards the Explorer and lower his monthly payment... he said stop laughing because it was making him laugh, which actually was making him cry...
@Fitty7lax:
It never gets any better, does it?
