The 2009 Hyundai Elantra sedan is the next step in Hyundai's product blitz and it's set to debut next week at Auto China. The new Elantra maintains the design language of the rest of the cars in the lineup that aren't the Genesis. That means an evolution of the front end treatment to something more resembling a late model Acura. Despite the new design, there's no word yet on whether the latest update will make it to the US, but hell, we wouldn't mind. Oh and no, we're not going to China to bring you the live reveal, so enjoy these shots because they're probably all you're getting.

The rearend is almost identical to a 3 series sedan. But I commend Hyundai for keep offering up good cars at great prices. If you can look beyond the lack of prestige, Hyundai is the value leader.
seems to have borrowed Audi's current swoopy accent lines but I feel woozy
That certainly doesn't look like the interior of a $16K car! This has to give Ford and GM executives indigestion.
eh. BMRFILE just wait till you hit the magic 6o k and every thing plastic in the car starts to rattle like a mo fo
a second gen Elantra was my first "real" car after college when I was poor but needed something more dependable than my 69 Beetle. Boy, was I wrong. It was a nice little wagon but the engine speed sensor blew out every year like clockwork. Sure they fixed it for free, but it really got tiresome.
@damnElantra: Maybe on econoboxes. But then again, almost all econoboxes at some point will start rattling. My neighbor's Sonata is 8 years old and has about 100k, still running strong and smooth.
You know, when boats sag in the middle like that, it usually means a broken keel.
Wonder what it means on a South Korean compact?
Looks like the Jetta from the rear. Acura from the front. The badge and the silver spokes sticking out is Subaru. The complete package is Hyundai. So many cars for the price of 1. I would be super-PO'd if I was Acura right now.
looks like a simple facelift. But, the generation before this is cute, if not nauseatingly girly. The update is more sporty. I really like this Corolla. I mean Elantra.
OH BOY! A NEW ELA--
Yeah no, no matter how hard I try, I just can't give two shits about this. In fact, even bothering to cover this car makes me suspect that Jalopnik has just been sold in Korea. "You'd never know it, would you? I think we've hidden it rather well. HELLO, you industrious little fellows!"
what is the acura model that you all think this emulates?
It looks like a pug-nosed Avalon in the front to me. I kind of like it.
The front and rear ends are a minor improvement, but what is with that character line dipping in the middle of the profile? That's just wrong. Makes the whole car look droopy.
