Question Of The Day: Is It Ever Okay To Wear Racing Team Apparel?

There's a great scene in PCU (rent it, trust us) wherein Jeremy Piven critiques John Favreau's choice of concertware saying: "What's this? You're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy. " But that's music. Sports is different, right? I'm currently wearing an Astros shirt, ballcap and slippers as I prepare for this afternoon's game at Wrigely. There's nothing wrong with that, though I will be taking a lot of verbal punishment for it. But that's baseball. Racing apparel has this whole weird vibe to it. Can you wear a Team Scuderia pitcrew shirt to a race? Can you wear it to Chili's?

Is it ever appropriate to wear racing shoes in a non-racing setting? What about those Puma Ferrari shoes (assuming you're Euro-trashy enough to pull it off)? You shouldn't wear a New Pornographers shirt to a New Porn concert, but there will be at least half a dozen people wearing Sonic Youth, Pavement or I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness tees. That being said, could you wear a Jeff Gordon tee to Monaco? So many rules, so many shirts and so few conventions. What do you all think? (h/t to our pal Al for the question)
