As much fun as the new R1e Electric Car is in photos, it really charms in person. Maybe it's the right-hand drive or the red on black interior. We could be interested in the purported " Maybe it's Subaru's own lithium ion batteries, which offers a two-minute fast charges that doesn't damage the batteries. The car is also more recyclable than previous electric cars, which is somewhat endearing. Who are we kidding? It's the Mario-esque mustachioed grille.

It's A Me Mario! Please'a Hayabusa me!
Maybe its your other left hand drive?
Right-hand drive must be the new left-hand drive...
(Pssst! Typo alert!)
Mmmmmm, Proofread-y.
I'm purported to have "
One time I was at bandcamp.
I believe that electric vaginas belong on a different gawker site.
and if ya dig the front end so much, why no pix? I had to dig back a couple pages to even get a sideways glance. Looks like a mini flying vag from the B9 but I could be wrong.
It's right hand drive for left handed Austrailians. Don't you insensitive bastids know anything?
Cool car.
@no_slushbox: COTPP! (Pocket P***Y)
And if you need a bigger car later in life, just drive it through a field of mushrooms and watch it grow to twice its size.
Road rage? Not a problem, just shoot fireballs out the front...
@ƂƵЯ: Or throw turtle shells...
Sorry, I had to.
@RoninianHoon: My thoughts exactly. I love frightened turtle lookalikes with crotchrocket engines. :)
How on earth did they manage the two-minute charge? Charging even the best lithium cells in thirty minutes is considered to be a last-ditch bad idea.
If Subaru can pull this off, they've gone and solved the electric car. And because it's a Subaru, it will (hopefully) be reliable.
I do like the Mitsubishi i car better, however. Despite being the same size, it's got four doors. Then again, it runs on normal gas.
@POLAЯ HEAЯS TEH CЯICKETS: Hopefully they get the joke, I think most people have heard of this referred to as the flying vagina grille.
does if have full-time four wheel drive?
If not, it's not a Subaru.
Do they not have any lights anymore in NYC? Why are all these photos too dark? Admit it, you guys were on the cleaning crew and took all the photos after hours.
There is an untold story here. Seems Ford used to own a big chunk of Subaru which it sold because of its financial problems. Along with the company went the rights to the lithium-ion batteries. Oops.
@RoninianHoon: Yup!
@TR3-A: Um, that was GM, not Ford, as in Saab 9-2 (Impreza).
...But the STI version is in another castle!
@pauln: Yep, Toyota owns Subaru now, well most of it.
@Spasticteapot: There's an R2 that is built off the same platform but with four doors.
@sos10: At last count I thought Toyota only owned something around 10%...
@sos10:
yea last i checked 9% < 51%
I hate myself for doing it, but I absolutely love this car.
Good looking, useful, nice interior and charges in the same time it takes you to pump a tank of gas.
You still wouldn't catch me driving one though.
I like how they're going back to that grill. Hopefully that will be on the new Impreza.
The big problem with batteries is that they don't last very long. After a single year of charging and discharging a laptop about once a day, you can lose twenty to thirty percent of your capacity.
In other words, you're going to need to replace a very expensive component once every two years or so.
Is this going to be all wheel drive?
