Jalopnik's favorite ongoing art project, the Frozen Chevy Nova has finally been completed. The Nova is frozen and looks wonderful despite ice issues, temperature fluctuations, blizzards and Malaise-era leaking parts. Our hats off to Mary and Sue as well as the community in and around Michigan Tech who helped this project get off the ground... and then get frozen to it.
You can check out the Frozen Car Blog for more photos and information on how this project came to be. (Photos used with the permission of the artists).

What's the big deal here? You could have taken pictures of thousands of cars like this in Cleveland last week.
This must be historical homage to days gone by, when frozen Novas were a dime a dozen!
It'd have better chances of starting if they'd used a Phoenix instead.
It's wonderful. If i didn't know better i'd say it was merely an ice sculpture, but the fact that there really is a Nova entombed in ice makes it just that much more special.
Entombed, yet still looking triumphant.
In Minnesota I have have to scrape that off my car before work every morning.
Yeah, funny, I build a garage exactly to prevent the above from happening, and they call it art?
Now, if they'd put it on a stick and called it a Novacicle, then I'd call it art!
So by Saturday morning there should be some campus kid nursing
a wicked hangover with his tongue stuck to a frozen '78 Nova.
A lot more excellent than I was expecting. Kudos to them.
It's supposed to be 80 and sunny for the next 3 days for me.
Ha.
A lot LESS interesting than I was expecting. Meh-1.
I know a guy who could've created that exact thing from a block of ice and a chainsaw, and some food coloring for the signal.
So will there be a part 2 tomorrow where Luke and Leah sneak into Jabba's palace to rescue the frozen Nova?
@OldeEnglishD: I hate to bust your chops, but you can't make a Star Wars reference and spell "Leia" wrong.
@GOOD SHEPHEЯD POLAЯ: I think the Michigan Tech kids keep their drinking inside anyways. It's not like there's a whole lot of bars to go to in Houghton.
I'll give props for this. Almost looks like the carved the Nova out of ice. Actually, a Nova carved out of ice would be more impressive, but I dig this nonetheless.
I'll have to side with the "turned out better that I thought it would" camp.
It's cool, and way different than I imagined. I thought they were going to encase it in a solid cube of ice, nice and square, like a prehistoric fly in amber, or one of Damien Hirsh's bisected farm animals in formaldehyde.
I like the cubic protrusions, very "Fortress of Solitude." It's like it's straight out of Jor-El's garage.
@Elwood: My bad, fingers got ahead of brain
@lascauxcaveman: Oops. That s/b 'Damien Hirst'. Y'know, like the shifter ;)
It only becomes art if someone breaks in and steals the radio and any spare change lying around.
@elwood: You'd be surprised how cold it gets before the drunks just stay inside. And we have plenty of bars, we have three times as many bars as we have stoplights!

Will they raise the price now that it's art?
I want to encase a 1979 Mercury Zephyr in Jell-O. Who's with me?
I detest the later Novas. If it was a pre- '68, then I'd call it art. And blasphemy.
