Not only can you buy rusted-out hulks on eBay Motors, you can score yourself a brand new SSC Aero, with a Buy It Now price of a way-cheaper-than-Veyron $585,899. As we all know, this thing is the fastest production car in the world, which should be good for bragging rights next time your Veyron-driving buddies are feeling too cocky. We have a few questions about the pricing, though. First, when you're looking at well over a half-mil, do you suppose it might be possible to skip the K-Mart-style $899 at the end? Price the damn thing at $586K or $585K and be done with it! Then there's the starting bid of just one dollar below the Buy It Now... with the reserve not met. What's the point? [eBay Motors]

Vector W8, anyone? Anyone ?
faster than the Bugatti I will give it that
but it looks more like a 1/2 million dollar kitcar
the interior is pretty bad for the money
and the rear end is similar to the Factory Five GTM
whose kit starts at a little under 20 grand
course the engine in this car is probably the most expensive component
on the other hand can you justify the extra 500GRAND for refinement and safety on the Bugatti?? Of course if you are filthy rich this wouldnt be an issue
But my PayPal account won't accept cash transfers for more than $585,898.
I miss when the McLaren F1 was the fastest.
Okay, so the rear lights are from a Diablo but I can't figure out where the front ones are from and the shape is vaguely familiar. First gen Focus? Bespoke?
The $899 is what they paid the designer to create this back-of-a-Trapper-Keeper supercar monstrosity.
They put it in the price to mock him for eternity.
I keep trying to get hold of one of these for a TV feature but they never get back to me...
@racerx: Yes, they are Ford Focus headlights. Specifically, the HIDs from the Mach Adio Focus (and perhaps European versions?).
Agh, my eyes!
It's revised now. Starting bid is US $585,899.00 with a Buy it now of US $585,900.00. Wow, I can save a buck !!
My mistake, I thought I read the starting bid was $1.
I'm with Drew on this one.
@FLB: As a Lambo test-driver said about the Vector:
"Motorized Ordure."
@Thirty-Nine:
Ah-ha! I thought so. Thanks man.
This is the kmart of supercars so the price is fitting. It has a budget rentacar interior and design elements cribbed from every supercar since the 80s thrown together in a horrible mishmash of styles so conflicted that it looks like it's melting. I laugh at the fool who is so easily parted with their $585,899.
@FLB: Nah. Vector was always basically vaporware. More like the Cizeta-Moroder of this decade. Very fast and bespoke, but somehow less than the sum of its parts. Oh yeah, and not really attractive.
Tacky.
@13oostedwgn: The same company owned Vector and Lamborghini for a while, and some Vectors used Lambo engines: [en.wikipedia.org]
It looks like a melting Gallardo from the side...
Besides, I laugh wholeheartedly at all those little companies with their "Veyron Killers".
A Veyron will only become more and more of a collector's item, whereas your standard "Veyronkiller" will depreciate faster than a laptop.
And what color is that? Candyapple red or something? This car is just wrong on so many levels...
The premise of an American startup beating the top speed of a car built as a massive undertaking by one of the worlds largest automakers sounds good, but because of the much more challenging durability, safety, liability and regulation compliance issues faced by VW the two cars cannot truly be compared.
There are a number of Bonneville racers that could become the fastest production car in the world if they made a second copy, put on headlights and turn signals, and sold it to someone.
From the world of borderline production exotic cars I would much rather have a Spyker.
Wow- finally something that makes the Saleen S7 look like a good value;
20 yrs ago, Lingenfelter went 254 with a Corvette that looked way more substantial than this thing- such is progress, eh?
Grey suede interior. How practical. A dream come true - at least for anyone whose dreams include travelling around inside a dead cow's udder.
@brandegee:
Your comment got me thinking about the how odd/awesome the Cizeta was and so I did a little research. It turns out you can buy brand new Cizetas to this day, 80's styling and all!!!:

Y'know, for that kind of money you could get what, 6 or 7 Nobles?
What's up with the site? Kind of annoying actually. Anyways, they were talking about this car on Top Gear and of course, since it was american they had to bash it. lol Realy funny actually.
who in their right mind would spend that kind of cash on a company that will very likely not be here in 5 years? then where do you get your parts from? rubbish. get a proper supercar and get on with it. if you HAVE to be different get a koenigsegg.
bah. Give me a Saleen S7 Twin Turbo over this crap. Hell, I'll take a Carrera GT over this.
Yes, those really are off the shelf OEM first gen Focus headlights with the HID option. That's why the hood and fender surface around them is all schmooed and play-doey to try to match the headlamp edges. Otherwise it would have a Focus front end.
This car is shit.
...Somehow I think if Captain Slow tried to max this thing there'd be an utterance of, "Oh cock," right before it cartwheels into a pine tree.
And that's why it is not a Veyron killer.
It's an ok car. I give em credit for making a cheaper out of the box top speed machine.
My question is: what are Lambo and Ferarri doing in response to the top speed wars?
I bet they could probably just dump a bunch of boost into their current halo cars and break 254.
I think Lambo and Ferrari are laughing about the speed wars, while investing less and making more with their piddling 200mph machines.
Hoon's for charity, thats the point and if its for real God may be a hoon after all.
I hate this car with a passion.
For anyone who has Project Gotham Racing 4, I think you'll agree that the SSC is likely the most beastly-sounding, brucetastic piece of four-wheeled-goodness in the game.
I love hearing it through my PC's 5.1 setup....I can only fantasize about it in real life.
Wait. What's this?!? I accidentally left only $585,898 in my spring jacket?!!!?? Damn it, where in the heck can I find just...one...more....DOLLAR!??!
Dang. Where's my tax refund when I really, really need it?
@FLB: I never heard of the Vector, that thing is badass good call
[www.roadandtrack.com]
an article gordon murray wrote on the subject of the speed wars, i like his points about the buggati and how it was designed outward in and is therefore not a supercar more of a fast fashion accessory
@racerx: Holy crud, the Cizeta is $650,000. Own your own piece of '80s crapulosity for 2167 easy payments of just $300.
