The lads over at Motor Trend have it that Nissan is "studying the possibility" of a four-door GT-R for the Infiniti brand. This reminds us of the time Laura Berkalter was "studying the possibility" of going out with us. While it didn't work it out with Laura, this is a rumor that might have legs. The sedan could carry over a lot of the components from the current GT-R, such as the twin-turbo V6, AWD setup and transmission. As the price could easily be in excess of $80,0000, making it an Infiniti is the only easy way to avoid the Phaeton syndrome.
What do you think? Is a GT-R sedan feasible? Will people buy it? [Motor Trend]

It would be nice if they took their inpiration from the car pictured above.
How about a new flagship sedan? Q37?
They could real easily do a 4-door variant of the GT-R. Would people buy it? Of course! And what would be better than a GT-R with four doors? A GT-R with a sportback! Talk about "haulin' ass!"
I think my question is why??? I think the G35 is a fab car and they can hop that up with the 3.7 and totally go nuts on the motor. A four door GT-R would be...well....weird!
If it's less expensive than an M6 and not as ugly, they might have a winner.
Is the Phaeton Syndrome where an unsold car sits on the lot so long, it wears through the asphalt all the way to China?
Sounds like someone mis-heard a conversation...
The Infinti G35/37 is sold under the Nissan Skyline name in Japan. The Skyline always had 2 identities: the pedestrian 4dr and 2dr sedan, and the fire-breathing Skyline GT-R.
Making a 4 door version of the current GT-R would seem unlikely, but crazier things have happened (cough-BMW X6-cough).
Infinti could use a flagship sedan. But something more like the Intima showcar (new Maxima) with the 5.6L V8 would seem to fit better.
Just what Nissan needs, a bigger, heavier, uglier GTR...
this story has nothing to do with WAGONS!
@akirachan: GT-R wagon= good idea. GT-R shooting break= better idea.
Why not? BMW has its M3 and M5 sedans. MB has its E63 AMG and I believe they will have a C63, as well. Audi has its RS-whatevers. Even Lexus has the IS-F. Who says people wouldn't want another stupid powerful, stupid fast sedan.
This would obviously work. Infiniti doesnt have a Halo/Flagship car. The Q was always a failure, so if the 4 door GTR came over it should NOT be labeled a Q. Don't know what other letter they could designate as mercedes holds both R and S class is their names....hmmmm
Tadaa!!!!
@Ed - JapanCarBlog.com: Puke!!!!! Why is there an infiniti badge on that GS?
INFINITI needs a GT-R WAGON!!
Could work. They could poach sales from Lexus by throwing down a super-powerful 450hp sedan that can keep up with some of Germany's offering. It would certainly outpace a Maser Q-port.
Personally, I think a 2003-2005 Q45 is a pretty good deal...low-mileage for under $25K.
@POLAЯ: We can haz Stagea Autech?

I can't even imagine how much bigger the GT-R would get if another set of doors were slapped on. I don't think there is a market for Infiniti on that level at least not in the States and Europe. Who would buy it given the price? ~80k for an Infiniti...I don't think so.
The Motor Trend report is littered with inaccuracies and inconsistencies, including:
1. The GT-R's platform, according to Nissan, is ALREADY Premium Midship; they had to extensively modify FM (the G/Skyline) to get, among other things, a rear-mounted transaxle
2. If Nissan comes up with a wheelbase stretch, all new sheetmetal, and a second set of rear doors, and only charges $3,000 to $5,000 more than a GT-R, then both Finance and Marketing need to be fired
3. If such vehicle existed, it would not compete with AMG and M; Infiniti would need a performance sub-brand to do that. What it would give Infiniti is something to compete with the BMW 8 Series and Mercedes CLS.
I like the GTR sedan idea but I'd say $80,0000 is a bit steep.
$800000?
Isn't that more like Koenigsegg or Pagani syndrome rather than Phaeton syndrome?
80,000 is gonna be a realistic street price (apres gouging)for GT-R.
If that is the case, think of GT-R as a M6 competitor and the M-Series GT-R as a competitor to the M5
95% of the performance of M5 And with big price savings off the bmw..(with far greater relability=Great Value).....
Nissan has done this before.

Wikipedia says this was a Nissan/Nismo/Autech collaboration for the 40th anniversary. I can't vouch for that, but I can say I've seen these on the street in Tokyo.
Holy shit! 8 kajillion dollars?!
