With the vast amount of floor space at McCormick Place for the Chicago Auto Show, Chrysler decided to put some of it to good use by setting up their "Trail Rated" challenge. Wert, Wojdyla and I piled into a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and proceeded through the course, bashing our heads against the roll-bars. The Wrangler made quick work of the rocks, logs, and steep hills ramps. Wanting a bit more of a challenge, we asked if we could get a ride in a Compass (or even an 18-1 Patriot) on the trail... but we think they must not have heard us. Oh well. Hmm... wonder how those DUB Chryslers would fair?

steepest/highest hill in the entire midwest. now, where do i sign the lease?
Are these "hills" and "Ramps" made out of plywood too?
Gee, a whole six inches of water. I hope you didn't get your transfer case wet.
I think you should have taken it at twice that speed, I bet they were dying for an excuse to put in a Dana 60 and OX lockers anyhow.
Like the bonus shot of the 4 inch thick sideburns on the sides of the driver's head. Are they contending with Spinelli's long flowing locks for Most Dominant Hair Feature of Jalopnik?
Question the 2nd: Are you guys going to have similar video of the hammer being dropped on a Hemi in the Dodge section of the Chryslerebus Fun Zone?
I did that a few years back - I got stuck with the Grand Cherokee, though. Thought it would have been a lot more fun in a Rubicon. The lines are loooooooooooong to drive the course, and they run it every 45 mins or so.
I like that Jeep set that up, a little too tame or not, it's still cool they wanted their toys to get dirty.
I've never tried the test drive set up - lines are often too long. The Jeep ride looks like it could be fun, but the Dodge and Chrysler rides, not so much.
@1300ccsoffury: nah, we didn't do the Dodge.
Though if they had a Challenger doing jumps...
haha theres a reason why they didnt hear you when you asked for a compass....cause it wouldn't even pass the 1st couple of logs in the beginning.
Note to Chrysler...drop Compass, and improve Patriot.

Say "bye bye" to the Jeep Queef.
Where's that guy who hooned the floor in NY?
I thought about doing the Jeep drive but didn't have time. The Wrangler Unlimited needs more diesel.
I hope you didn't let Ray drive.(He kind of likes the sauce)if you know what I mean.Especially when it involves big crowds and lots-o-cars.
An 18-1 Patriot!!! Hahahaha Best reference ever!
You should have grabbed the WRX STi from the Subaru booth and done that like a rally stage, complete with spectators fleeing the oncoming car.
looks like fun! Call me when you guys need another writer. I already write for the local auto rag and I'm already in the midwest, I could have driven to chicago!
Hey Ray: Nice ensemble you put together to go Jeeping.
The man with the plan, the dude with the tude, the guy with the tie.
i was just there today! i wanted to try out the jeeps but the line was just too long.
That is the best display at the Chicago Auto Show. The Jeeps are great. (former owner)
Yes, the compass and patriot would do just fine on that, and they have them too.
Idiots who have never taken them out should not talk shi+ about them. Like making comments about what it's like to kiss a girl from some of these guys.
Oh, how many cameras you guys hook up, anyway?
Hm. Aside from, maybe, The Slope, I see nothing there that couldn't be conquered by a Volvo 240 with 100 pounds in the trunk and decent tires.
Or, yes guys, a Compass - though this is about the most a Compass could do.
should take it to MT TRASHMORE in Evanston...
THATS the biggest hill in the midwest...
When I got into a manual Rubi on one of the courses at Camp Jeep a few years ago, they didn't want you to take it out of second. The course was so frappin' lame I could have done it in 2Hi in 4th. This looked equally meh. But then again, how often do you get to drive indoors?
I guess road-head is out of the question on that coarse?
I don't think I trust suit-wearing bloggers.
Just testing on an old thread. Please excuse the interruption. All is well.
