We don't remember seeing this at SEMA, because if we had, we would have made fun of it there as well. Nonetheless, the placard claims this Toyota Corolla SE Prototype was first shown at the infamous tuner show, and we claim it was first seen somewhere in a Ford studio run by Dave "Big Balls" Horbury. Seriously — check out that grille, somebody falling in love with the Ford Fusion much? Perhaps this is a new salvo in a developing grille wars. Whatever. We feel like maybe we should be on the look out for a restyled Ford Taurus sporting a Klingon forehead grille.

That big intercooler smile makes it look like it has braces.
Looks more like a silly body kit then a sporty prototype.
Attempting to give the dowdy Corolla a contemporary edgy look is as pathetic as giving a portly balding guy a combover and spandex.
Toyota sells about 350,000 Corollas a year in the US without any hype or real effort. Can't they just quietly count their blessings?
Wow, man, that hurt. I like my combover and I really rock the spandex.
Intercooler? On a Corolla? I'm not sure I trust this car, it's probably a trap.
Seriously... What year is this?!
Oh look, a Corolla dressed in Subaru Blue, with a Fusion Grill. This thing is more confused than a straight man at a cross dressers convention.
Speaking of SEMA Cars, what's the little white number next to this Furollabaru?
Grille by Gillette, rims by SaladShooter.
Wow, forget the fusion grille, and check the pontiac sunfire inspired secondary reverse lights kickin' it out back, I'd like to say awful but this mod has inspired me to re-consider my perception of new automotive trends beyond the fake fender and hood vents....this is up with the bullet hole stickers, in fact the whole notion of a Corolla in this form is insane, I need a coffee.
@UDMAN: Looks like a chopped Yaris (or Aygo?)
Why did they not paint this car some shade of brown so we could say that Toyota truly waxed a turd.
@FatBraff: Serious, nice Photo Chop.
@ BEN WOJDYLA
Should that be Peter Horbury, who's this Dave guy?
I know its not as tasteful as truck nuts, but I'm really quite surprised some honky garage isn't hawking fake plastic inter-coolers for all the ricers and wanna-be hoons out there.
The car would look decent with different rims...perhaps a set of BBS will make the car look more menacing.
Fatbraff: That is some amazing P-shop work.
I knew I had seen something like this Corolla here on Jalopnik around SEMA time and after some searching I found:
[jalopnik.com]
I think this is what Toyota means when they say it was first shown at SEMA.
@bmrfile: @prndl:
it's a little f'd but thank you
the only mods I've ever seen on a Corolla is is a large new driver sticker on the trunk and a second steering wheel. Seriously these beige boils are all over the roads here.
@trs1: There were 2 simultaneous reveals at SEMA. One for the stock versions at the hotel, and one for the modified versions at the convention hall (or vice versa).
@UDMAN: That, my friend, is a Yairs monoposto, also shown first at SEMA. It was actually pretty damn cool.
I like the rear 3/4 view with the Ford "Quality" sign in the background and the Toyota Corolla in the foreground. A cynic would say, a classic example of saying versus doing.
This was at SEMA and it was one of a couple new Corolla's handed over to some tuners to play around with.
@Maymar: It doesn't have to be an intercooler. It could be a 'front-mounted cold air intake system' ([www.ppsonline.net]), otherwise known as an interfooler.
Yes, I want a spiritual successor to the AE86 and AE92, a return to the days when Toyota's slogan was "I love what you do for me" (instead of "mutual indifference for the next 250,000 miles"), but--dammit--I don't want to cringe every time I look at it. Bring back the folks who styled the Supras, Celicas, and MR2s...and take the folks who redesigned the Camry and consign them to the Chinese hell of being Bangle's interns.
lmao. Nice Piloter. I agree. Alltracs & [slightly overplayed] supras ftw!
