With all this Barrett-Jackson brouhaha around here, we mustn't forget that there are other places to spend torrents of money on a vintage car. Say, on eBay Motors, where $3,000,000 will buy you the only GT500 Super Snake that Carroll Shelby ever made. You get the 520-horse 427, the rights to the SuperSnake.org website, and about a million tons of history with the deal. But still, we can't help wondering how many Omni GLHSs you could buy with 3 megabucks and still have enough left over for a mansion and a couple of Zimmer Golden Spirits- probably all of them! "Shelby drove around the track at speeds in excess of 150MPH. At one point he was clocked at a top speed of 170MPH. Then he handed it over to Goodell to do the actual testing because he had to be in Washington, D.C.. Goodell eventually established a record, averaging 142MPH for 500 miles."
Okay, I'm impressed. I don't suppose we'll catch Mulally endurance testing the GT500KR at 300km/h, however.
Tis a thing of beauty but I don't think I can swing the payments. Or the insurance.
"Hello, Geico? Yeah, it's 40 years old, 520 hp, no safety features--wait, I think it has a seat belt--hello? Hello?"
Oh no..not another SE
Some guy named James Parker says he'll pay cash for it, he just needs to go back to work a few more times.

Didn't that sell at BJ last year? Or am I confusing all the billion versions of Mustangs?
@rt4:
I thought so too but I searched BJ's database and it didn't come up.
@rt4: I'm not confusing Mustangs, I'm confusing "Super Snakes". Last year was a Cobra "Super Snake". Can't find a link, just remembered.
Maybe it's just me, but chili-man provenance, unusable horsepower, and dicey handling in a $3 million package just doesn't float my boat. I achieved nearly the same result with a $3500 '64 Comet. Minus the chili.
Damn there sure is a lot of Shelby stuff coming out of the woodwork, that deathclock must be really getting close.
It is so nice of Jalopnik that they are warming us up for the new Mustang, Ford will be very happy.
Does Ron Pratt not know of the internets?
Or is buying on the QT not ego inflaming enough?
@Uncle_Bo: My girlfriend caught me looking for BJs on Google...
Serious question, Mr Shelby does pass on, what will it do to an already pricy market? Will a 2 or 3 million dollar car suddenly be worth more? And what about other cars built by the big name guys such as Foose, Coddington, Trepanier and others do when they get older?
@HTRODBLDER: So that begs the question... if I have a Shelby (or Saleen, etc.), what would be the break-even figure for having said designer/builder "sleep with the fishes". I mean... it would be an investment at that point, right?
There seems to be a belief that these cars are considered "rolling art" which I can agree, but when will we start to price our hobby we love into an area that nobody can afford?
It has turned into an interesting part of our sport, when before the value was percieved because of who owned it. Now its who built it, or put their name on it. And if the value of these cars do suddenly jump because of a death, will be start to see more "signiture" builds to pump up vehicle value?
I would not buy one for my house
I would not buy it with my mouse
This reminds me of the time just before Jaguar released the XJ220 and the market for exotics and classics tanked. Except millionaires with more money than sense seem thicker on the ground now.
Thanks Lemondriver for the tip!! (See the comments on the Saleen SE Mustang thread).
No respect, I tell ya, no respect....
ITS JUNK.
