Good thing the automakers from the land of the rising sun don't rely on the hometown crowd for much of their profits. The BBC is reporting recent figures indicate the continuing decline in Japanese auto sales has reached a 35 year sales low. The trend has been blamed on everything from wage stagnation to high price of ownership to population gentrification. Some of the year over year numbers are pretty shocking, Toyota was down 6%, Nissan fell 9.7%, and Daihatsu plummeted almost 50%. Makes the situation in the US look not so bad doesn't it?

Why buy a Daihatsu Trevis when you can spend your money on these Crotch Kicking good Doritos!
Super Happy FunTime in US and A! Never seen a man so happy with a foot in his nads
What is population gentrification, and how would an increase in wealth (what that term implies) lead to a decrease in auto sales?
"Makes the situation in the US look so bad doesn't it?"
I dare you to make less sense.

Whatever goes up
Will soon come down again
Hope the Salesmen saved
That's a rather, ummm, unique demographic they seem to be advertising those Doritos to.
Paging Charles Barrett. Paging Charles Barrett...

Enjoy Doritos!
@fatbraff: it pretty much writes itself really...
Isn't that The Phantom?
those guys on the doritos bags are available as little dioramas where they are superheroes in everyday situations. they are amazing. i have one where the one guy is comforting the other as he throws up into the toilet. there is another where one of them is just on the train with all the salarymen. they are amazing.
Daihatsu took some hit. Ouch. I don't really understand; the Charade and Sirion are good little runarounds, plus the JDM probably gets bat-shit insane four-wheel drive turbo versions.
@harumph: Quality. Do you have a link?
taitsukun, i had to look them up their site has some great stuff on it.

Doritos. You're doing it wrong.
Sorry.
Doritos. You're doing it wrong.
Jalopnik, you're doing it wrong. I posted comment and it said "not inserted, duplicate post." So I waited. Nothing. Typed it again. And both went in.
@squablow: If I was perfect, you'd ever have anything to make fun of.
and by ever I mean never.
@FreeMan: At your service...
That's considered foreplay in the Unitard-with-Hoody GLBT, better known as UwH-GLBT Community. You don't even want to know where the foot goes in the next position...
...but our parades are AWESOME...!
@Novaload:
Actually I think they're doing it right. I'd be more inclined to buy Doritos if they came in that bag in the US...
...He also appears to be putting the 'lay' back into FritoLay®...
@harumph: Unfortunately that link doesn't seem to work.
@harumph:
holy crap, this crotch shot on is awsome. They also have a Nintendo DS game.
I've read (somewhere) that the German car market was down 9.2% in 2007. Something about a massive VAT increase. When will they ever learn?
Ahh, the good ol' "Denki-anma (electric vibrator)" trick...Good clean fun!
Time to move the corporate HQs to sunny So Cal.
@Dr.Danger:
So their DS game is not Touch Dic?

Good thing for the Japanese automakers that the average Japanese consumer is xenophobic and only buys domestic. Imagine how they would be doing if they didn't have their nice captive market to exploit.
@Dr.Danger: That crotch shot leaves no doubt that both "Unitard with Hoodies" dudes ARE dudes... Good find...!
Those guys has a flavor?
I will be happy to take a Daihatsu Move Custom right here in NY, thank you very much. In black.

@Charles_Barrett: there's a reach-around scene, too.
@hyman decent: What's happening is that many Japanese are giving up their suburban houses and moving into condos in the center of town, where they don't need cars to get around. It means a shorter commute if you're still working, and easier access to services if you're retired. The population as a whole is aging fast, which is never good for auto sales.
I love it.. the article is about the decline in sales of automobiles in japan, and because there's a humorous doritos bag as the photo that's what gets commented on the most.
@usa1: Not every Japanese can afford to import and maintain unreliable American cars. The irony of your statements shows clearly. Stop talking about yourself.
