GM rolled out its Halo 3 Warthog doppelganger, the Hummer HX concept amid considerable pomp and circumstance around E85 Ethanol and other green technologies. GM's sales VP Mark Le Neve introduced the concept as a vehicle that'll get the kids to put down their Wii controllers and start climbing rocks IRL. No word on production plans, but we've been expecting a Jeep Wrangler/ Toyota FJ Cruiser competitor for a while. This may be it, though likely without the chain gun and plasma pistol.

I'm guessing we meant "pomp and circumstance" there...
This years theme at Detroit "Halo Wars" The Hummer HX and the Jeep Renegade....Oh its only two companies, nevermind
Are they going to price it in between the wrangler and the FJ? Or are they going to try and think that the hummer brand is worth something extra?
Warthog? Looks more like a puma to me.
@ TYPE3NOTCHBACK - damn near fell outta my chair laughing at that.
Is a red and black interior the in thing? The Ford Verve concept has one too.
There are two things that concern me regarding this vehicle.
One is the excessively high front of the car... What happens if you hit a pedestrian, baby carriage, bicyclist etc in city traffic? The unfortunate victim will undoubtedly end up under the car and get squished/badly injured.
The second is what'll happen to anyone stuck behind this monstrous thing on the road in wet/snowy/slushy conditions. It's a good thing this is just a concept, because I don't think not having any rear fenders is legal in most civilized countries. ;)
I can't say this abomination appeals very much to me. It looks like an overgrown hog of a car that'll clog up our cities and create even more traffic jam than we already got, not to mention with its high weight and aerodynamics like that it'll probably guzzle fuel like a thirsty camel...
But that's alright, because it reminds us of a video game jeep! :-P
@Type3Notchback:
Quote of the day man!
I think it would be a good idea for Hummer to go ahead and build a Wrangler type vehicle to compete directly with Jeep.
If they did it well with minimalist style, they could have a cult type vehicle, like Jeep does
And here now driving up the new Warthog HUMMER IS MASTER CHEIF!
The new Hummer Bummer.
Where's my plasma pistol.....
@danio3834: And solid axles front and rear, make that two Dana 60s please. Or atleast a 44 front and 60 rear.
i generally hate the hummer (not the humvee of course), but I could get on board with this - biofuel please
I think ms should include this as DLC for halo 3.
I kind of like it. And this comes from someone who hates Hummers. I can just imagine all of the upper middle-class high school students driving this thing to go pick up video games at Best Buy.
Red vs Blue is going to love this one :P
I like it, looks like it could be a winner. I drive a H3 Hummer and would look into something like this if they released it.
I would be shocked if they didn't try to do some kind of tie-in with the Halo license. Don't underestimate the ammount of diehard geeks out there who would give their right arm and first born child to drive the warthog around in everyday life.
@Type3Notchback: Chupathingy!
@akashhhhh: Yes. Like the college graduation song.
Ethanol is in no way green, unless you're referring to the stalks the corn originally grew on.
Had to say it, my anus feels much better now.
Two days later, it's still Ucking Fugly.
Hummer,
I wanted to love you. But the crowd you hang out with and the way you dress makes me hate you. You had so much potential, but you threw it all away for the rappers and the lonely trophy wives.
Sure, you've shown some promise. You learned what a 4:1 transfer case was, and now this. You're so close, but with your terrible behavior, I'm not sure what to make of it. Will you come back to your ancestral heritage, where you belong, or will you continue down the path of gluttony and wickedness?
@Mad_Science: COTD! Nice work sir.
I like this thing, I just hope they manage not to screw it up.
Once again, i have three words for you: Blood Gulch Jump
No diesel, no sale.
i like it.. i hope they can pull off something like this..
but a dang DIESEL please,,,, COME ON
@xenti: No sniper rifle, no care.
@rmeehan17 ["I would be shocked if they didn't try to do some kind of tie-in with the Halo license."]: You would probably be more shocked to learn there was a Halo 3 contest that gave away a Halo 3-ified Pontiac G6 GXP.
@Cynopt: You have a valid point.
I don't know if it would be breaking some fundamental rule of Hummers, but I would love about a 200hp, 2.5-3.0L inline 4 version that sips gas in comparison. Or better yet, a hybrid with nice torquey electric motors.
@fuchikoma: Problem is, they're so heavy that less engine really doesn't get you any better mileage. The H3 has an inline 5 good for like 220hp, but gets the same mileage as the V8.
I'll add my voice to the diesel choir. Whoever starts adding diesels to their light-duty offerings will get my vote. I'll take 200hp, 400lb-ft of torque (at 1600rpm) and 20mpg, please.
Why do I get the feeling that every ordinary green jeep/buggy thing will get the "omg haloz" treatment from now on.
@TexanIdiot25: indeed. solid axle FTW!
@Mad_Science:
I know they're heavy, but it sounds like they're trying hard to lighten the HX, and I'm thinking along the lines of a "street version" Hummer for um... "soccer moms and rappers" not meaning it as an insult.
But a diesel would be great too if they could make a clean one. My problem is I love the look, but hate the specs on the existing ones.
@FaaR: Not to sound prickish but the answers from most people who would buy that most likely fall along the lines of "I don't care."
@FaaR: Splater spree!
@FaaR: What car would you rather get hit by? As if getting hit by this and killed underneath it is better than getting hit by a low to the ground car and dying in the windshield?
"what if this thing runs over a baby carriage" could be said about any car.
A need for mudflaps is a valid point though.
