American Honda CEO Tetsuo Iwamura confirmed to Wards Auto that, yes, the Acura NSX would return to American shores and likely around 2010. We're going to miss all the Acura NSX Gossip. Will they? Won't they? It was like Ross and Rachel, except with Takeo Fukui and a halo sports car. The car was initially meant to be out around now so it could take on the Nissan GT-R, but that obviously didn't happen.
Apparently, designers were unhappy with the lukewarm response to the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept. When it does arrive, it'll likely sport a V-10 and possibly a version of Honda's SuperHandling AWD system. Or not. There's still much gossip to be had. [Wards Auto via WCF]

If they build the "ASC" I will have even more reason to never give up what I already have.
I'll gladly be keeping my 94 NSX.
Still, I think it looks better than the GT-R, but yeah, not a worthy successor to the NSX.
After the old NSX and the S2000 I'd be surprised if it wasn't on the "purist" end of the spectrum. With an F1 derived engine.
I never really liked this concept. Honestly, how many people will pay a premium for V10 and possibly AWD over a V8 thats mounted in the rear. If the first NSX was criticized for being overpriced and underpowered, how will a pricey AWD system help it? Snap oversteer be damned, the original NSX had beautiful proportions.
I think Honda should stick with the same MR layout but throw in a V8 that puts out 350+hp and price it around a base Corvette. And do something with that stupid generic wedge styling.
@danms6: And aim for 3200 lbs or less.
As long as it isn't woefully underpowered and overpriced i see no problem with this.
with AWD okay, but MR only and I'll pass.
who am I kidding? I teach history for less than a third of what this will probably cost in the end.
*tears up
yay!
that concept looks like a 50s/60s era 'futureistic' Corvette concept.
They were actually surprised by the response? I have shoes more exciting than this thing. I've scribbled more dynamic designs on my desk blotter while sitting on hold.
At the same time, I can understand Acura's engineers. They're nerds, they're dorks, they're technoweenies. In a sense they remind me a bit of HP in the computer world. They think that by putting a whole bunch of power in a bland package, they can get the same sort of buzz as, say, Apple. They're crying, "but look at this engine! It's the best thing we've ever created! It's beautiful! It's technologically advanced! It has more computing power than the space shuttle!"
Problem is they're crying these things so loud, they don't hear us crying back, "but the car is bland and kind of ugly and appears to have the Batman logo on its arse-end!"
Someone needs to explain to Acura (and their parent company, whose name slips my mind) that you can't let the nerds do the styling. Speaking as a nerd, we have no sense of style whatsoever. Those of us who care, have gay friends...
BY JOVE THAT'S IT! Acura needs to find some gay friends to give them a dose of style. Then, I'm sure, this little sports coupe will be Mucho Fantastico!
Okay, I think I've offended everyone evenly. I'm going back to sleep.
@danms6: Sure, but they are looking to replace the NSX not the Prelude.
I agree, but they should at least try to add lightness compared to their current products. The only one that doesn't look or drive like a bloated pig is the S2000, and it hasn't changed in a decade. Honda shouldn't be the company trying to throw a 500hp V10 into a 4000lb AWD boat.
@danms6: Cars as nicely designed as the S2000 and Miata and NSX don't need to change more than once a decade.
Nissan dropped a 473hp V8 into a 3800lb AWD boat. Will Honda build a GT-R? I don't think so. On the other hand, with all that newfound SH-AWD and turbo technology on board, they'll be hard-pressed not to use it. And what better way to safely guide a pig than with electronic nannies, multiple differential and forced induction?
Why call it an NSX, if it is totally different form the predecesor?
