Prior to the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este this weekend, BMW revealed something called the 328 Hommage which, like the M1 Hommage from a couple years back, is a retro-futuristic look at BMW's storied history. One week ago, I rediscovered pictures I took inside BMW's closed-to-the-public motorsport museum. Those images were four years old, however, and their pron was limited. Now someone has YouTubed an off-the-cuff video tour of the same building. McLaren overload, anyone? More »

Our German buddy, The Bouncer, was a garage rat growing up. We could clog the tubes with his stories of Deutschland hoonage in hypermodified BMWs and mythical Porsches. As a result of this, we've got the inside track on some of Bavaria's most respected garages and their automeisters. This particular fellow is Dieter W. His full name and location will remain anonymous for reasons that will become evident shortly. Dieter is a BMW guy. His garage services only the steel of the Bayerische Motoren Werk and he's got an unbelievable little secret in one of his work bays. More »

You'll have to fork over $33,175 for the entry-level 328i Sedan, $39,675 for the entry-level 335i Sedan and $34,975 for the 328i Sports Wagon. The most expensive of all 3 series (non-M) is the 335xi AWD model, topping out at $41,575 before you start throwing on all of the fun options like paddle shifters and cheese sorters. Quick; name a post-war, air-cooled, rear-engined BMW without the twin-kidney grill. Most pistonheads would answer, "Isetta." And they wouldn't be wrong. However, true Deutschaphiles will shout, "700!" And they couldn't be more right. After the tragic failures (from a sales standpoint) of the upscale 502, 503 and 507 models, BMW was forced to build dorktastic rolling eggs like the Isetta and subsequent 600. Yes, yes, those cars were cute, but as far from the ultimate driving machine as President Bush is from reality. All that changed in 1961 with the release of the 700. Introduced to the world for the 1936 Olympics, the BMW 328 was an (almost) instant classic that went on to dominate the world of motor racing for the next half-decade. But like the "in your face, master race" that Jesse Owens gave Hitler and friends by winning four gold track & field medals, the 328 harbored an un-Aryan secret; it was designed by a Jew. The gorgeous 328 was in fact designed by Kurt Joachimson, a Hebrew brother from another mother who had created the first sporting BMW, the 315/1 Roadster. Credit for the 328's sporting lines went to a man who wasn't hired by the Bavarian Motorwerks until after the 328 went out of production (and other times wrongly attributed to Fritz Fiedler — only it wasn't Fritz). Despite the ugly history, the 328 is one of the most beautiful and important vehicles ever conceived and executed. More after the jump. More »
