Bob Lutz: Twelve-Banger Caddy is Nigh

According to Automotive News, Cadillac is going ahead with building a V12 engine that will power a new flagship model. The company's Chairman of Vice, Bob Lutz says it's a product of the company's coolness division, now housed at the Holden company in Australia. The twelve banger will be composed of two of Holden's 3.6-liter V6s fused together to form a 7.2-liter, 600-hp stump puller with 540 lb-ft of torque. The car itself, as Lutz mentioned at the Chicago show last month, will be built on an extended version of the Holden-developed Zeta rear-drive platform. For design direction, refer to Cadillac's Sixteen concept from 2003. Should the Mercedes S-Class be worried? Maybe not yet, but we're imagining lots of murmuring in German over too many fluted glasses of Apple wine.
