Consumer Reports: "We've Made A Huge Tiny Mistake"Matt Hardigree3/20/07 5:31pmFiled to: NewsConsumeristAccidentcar seatsConsumer Reports23EditPromoteShare to KinjaToggle Conversation toolsGo to permalinkHey, Remember when Consumer Reports admitted that their shocking slice of child car seat muckraking was just a teensy bit off the mark? Good times. The consumer mag hired independent consultants to discover what went wrong. According to CR, the fault, dear reader, lies not in ourselves but in our contractors. Due to a miscommunication between the staff and the company they out-sourced the work to, the side impact tests were performed at the equivalent of 70 mph, instead of 38 mph, making the tests all but useless. While CR has taken full responsibility for the incident, we think the message behind all of this is that consumers should be wary of fantastic claims from any source.
