Baby Phantom Won't Be Under $250,000; to Roll on New Platform

Those middlin' rich souls waiting for a baby Rolls-Royce Phantom in the Bentley Continental's price range should give up the dream for good. Adding just a little to a report from earlier this year, Auto Week says the new model, coming in 2010, won't be under $250,000 and may reach $300,000. Rather than using the existing platform of parent BMW's long-wheelbase 7-Series — with which it will share size — the new model will get its own underpinnings. A second shift at the Goodwood assembly plant, where its larger sibling is built, will handle production, which could top 800 cars a year. No word on engine, but electronic infrastructure will come directly from BMW.
