Right after receiving the phone call from the boys in Dearborn earlier today, FoMoCo issued a press release whereby they again vigorously deny plans for an expanded Mustang line-up. But the second half of the press release brought up plans for a concept car they'll be showing at the Detroit Auto Show in nary more than a few weeks time. It's called
"The Interceptor" and it "is based on the Mustang's rear-wheel-drive architecture but it is not a Mustang and no production plans have been announced." While that's not technically a "Mustang", it's most certainly a Mustang platform-derived vehicle. More than likely this concept would need to hold very little in the way of cues from the Mustang it's "based on" in order to ensure FoMoCo PR isn't seen as a bunch of liars, liars, pants on fire. While we've got no pictures of this Ford "Interceptor" concept to show you yet — our crack graphics team's been working overtime and they've provided the following two possible renderings below the jump that merge the "Hi, I'm Dave!" styling with FoMoCo's heritage.
Yes, that's right — it's got to be the Ford Interceptor Police Cruiser, right? No? How about the Origami edition? No? Crap — we totally thought we had something there. Guess we'll just have to wait until December 31st like everyone else, eh?
