Following its hippie rivals in Marin, Berkeley has become the second municipality to order up a fleet of plug-in hybrids. The problem, of course, is that no manufacturer currently builds such a vehicle, and we're assuming that hacked vehicles aren't acceptable to governments, seeing as both Berkeley and Marin have placed "soft orders" in recognition that they can't actually purchase the vehicles. Somehow, this seems perfectly logical in the Bay, and especially in Berkeley, the nuclear-free zone where Glenn Seaborg first isolated plutonium.
