    Otis Chandler Collection Hauls in $36 Million

    If anyone was skeptical that LA Times publisher Otis Chandler wasn't sitting on one of the greatest collections of reprocessed iron ore in the world, the final tally after the Gooding & Co. Auction at Chandler's occasionally-open-to-the-public museum should put the doubting Thomases in their place. The biggies were a 1931 Duesenberg J Special Phaeton which went for $2.64 million and a 1904 Mercedes 40/45 HP Sports Touring which netted $2.25 million. And with vehicles like Chandler's Aught-Seven Harley Strap-Tank Single going for $352,000, the record-breaking $36,094,250 grand total wasn't exactly a shock. – Davey G. Johnson
