Chevy has 12 World Touring Car Championships under its belt already, and the company is gunning for another with its new WTCC-prepped and stickered Chevy Cruze. Yes, you heard that right — the econobox you can't ignore is undergoing testing and engineering right now with a scheduled debut at Curitiba, Brazil during the opening race of the 2009 season. Chevy appears to be aiming for consistency, with the same team and drivers they've previously used arming up for battle with the new Cruze. Chevy Cruze Unveiled in Paris

GM just officially unveiled the Chevy Cruze’s interior in Paris, and it’s surprisingly nice. Maybe a bit Honda-like, but welcoming and contemporary nonetheless. Aside from the colorful fabric inserts, the new global economy car’s dash relies on an integrated center stack that does away with traditional partitions for the interfaces, grouping them all into one, central unit. Also noteworthy are the attractive instruments. In fact, looking at these pictures, it’s hard to tell that the Cruze will be a bargain, inside; it looks almost as up-market as a 2008 Honda Accord. GM Officially Announces 1.4-liter Four-Cylinder For Chevy Cruze, Volt To Be Built In Flint, MI

GM has announced it will invest $370 million in a new 552,000 square-foot plant in Flint, Michigan to produce the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engines intended for duty in the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Volt. The engines will be rolling off those new lines in two flavors — turbocharged with 140 HP and 148 lb-ft of torque for the Cruze, and a non-turbocharged 100 HP version for the Volt. The plans also indicate the 1.4-liter is destined for service in two additional U.S.-bound models expected to debut in the 2011 time frame — helping GM to their planned goal of "one-third of...North American engine volume will be four-cylinders by 2011." Despite the Lordstown reveal of the all-foam 2010 Chevy Cruze, a real one was spotted in a parking lot wearing only a domino mask over the badge, as if nobody would notice. The Cruze has been overshadowed by the PR tour de force that is the Chevy Volt; that said, the 45 MPG Cruze is shaping up to be a very serious contender, and these are the first virtually camo-free images we've seen of the car out in the wild. Chevrolet Cruze Gets Live Body-In-Foam Reveal At GM Plant

At a news conference announcing GM's Lordstown, OH plant will receive a hot $350 million cash injection to build the new Chevrolet Cruze in the United States, GM CEO Rick Wagoner revealed a full-size foam model of the new 2011 compact replacement to the Chevy Cobalt. As we reported yesterday, the new Chevy Cruze will be revealed officially at the Paris Motor Show (so we can see that brand-spankin' new interior in person) and is scheduled to go on sale in March 2009 in Europe, where it will be available with 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter gasoline engines and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel. GM has not yet made a commitment on engine options to be offered here in the United States when the Lordston plan starts pumping out the little econoboxes by mid-2010 other than the already announced 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Chevy Cruze Gets Full Detail Reveal Before Paris Unveil

GM just dropped high resolution images of the upcoming Chevy Cruze small four-door on us in advance of its Paris Motor Show unveil later this year. At first glance, we're quite impressed. The new car gets a striking design which mixes smooth planes and sharp lines for a surprisingly handsome design. Oddly, the tail lights on the Cruze mimic the camouflage-ensconced headlights on the upcoming Chevy Equinox while also receiving the new bold front end from the Chevy Malibu. If this is the direction GM's small cars are going, we've gotta say, our interest is piqued. But that's just the design. We're also told the new 2011 Chevy Cruze will get three engines when it launches in Europe in March of 2009; a 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp) and 1.8-liter (140 hp) gasoline engine, plus a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel (150 HP). All will be mated to either a five-speed manual or a class-leading six-speed automatic transmission. Chevy Cruze Interior Shot Shows Off Curvaceous Two-Tone Dash

Although it's not the first photo showing what to expect from the interior of the new Chevy Cruze, it's much clearer than the last shot. We're told the new fuel sipper from Chevrolet will hit the showroom floors as a 2010 model, sport an impressive-if-true 45 MPG and will be built out of the General's Lordstown, OH plant, just across the assembly line from it's Chevy brother the Cobalt. Rick Wagoner Unwraps First Shots Of Chevy Cruze, Cadillac SRX

In the now-infamous press conference from General Motors this morning, Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner not only spelled out GM's strategy to save itself from impending doom, but also revealed pretty much every upcoming GM vehicle that hadn't already been shown to the public. This includes the first photos of the 2010 Chevy Cruze, 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2010 Saab 9-4X, and the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. This comes in addition to official confirmation of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe and 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon. So basically, along with GM's own downsizing, they're also putting plenty of enterprising spy photographers out of business too.

2010 Chevy Cruze To Hit Paris Motor Show Like A Missile

The brand all about the 'merican revolution is reporting they'll be revealing an all new car at the Paris Motor Show later this year called the Chevy Cruze. We don't know much other than the 15-foot-long Cruze will seat five, be available in Europe by Spring of next year and have the same global design language as the rest of the bowtied brand. As the Cruze will be just under the size of the Cobalt, we can't help but think this is the car we'd been hearing would be coming to the Lordstown, Ohio plant either as a replacement to, or in addition to, the Chevy Cobalt.
