Like other outlets, we too received a special "CONFIDENTIAL" package via DHL from Ford SVT this morning. Inside was a CD with the following video clip of the Ford F-150 Raptor being put through its paces in some unnamed desert. Looks like the truck is able to gobble up some pretty serious terrain at some pretty serious speeds. It's a good thing it seems to performs like a champ too, as dealers were urged at the Las Vegas product preview to "drive this right up Toyota's ass." More »

First and foremost, the DeWalt Contractor Concept tacks on the expected exterior off-road upgrades but also adds thoughtful touches like a tool charger in the center console, storage under the rear seat and Ford's tool tracking system to make sure your chop saw doesn't walk away. PML and Ford have been palling around for a while now, most recently to develop the Volvo Recharge C30 concept. Now they've gone in on an in-wheel electric drive plug-in hybrid Ford F-150 concept coming to SEMA. The in-wheel motors are a clever brushed pancake design that act as a part of the wheel and not just another add-in part. We've often thought hybrid tech would be best developed in the pickup market, where high torque matters and light weight and great driving dynamics don't. Considering the tremendous capabilities and competency displayed by the 2009 Ford F-150, it's anything but a surprise the truck has been awarded the Truck of Texas title by the Texas Auto Writers Association, making it the sixth year in a row Ford has owned those bragging rights. It was a good year for Ford and no doubt, cost-responsible champagne will be flowing. However, we're definitely confused by this next part. Buyers can choose from either $2000 in addition to the value of their trade-in, or 6.9% financing (standard rate is 8.9%). If that doesn't work, Alan Mulally will personally give you either his first-born child, or 15 minutes with his wife to create your own. The idea is to lend a helping hand to truck guys stuck with crappy resale value in a market with decreased demand for big ol' trucks. Ford has apparently seen stocks of existing F-150 trucks depleted more quickly than expected, leading the Dearborn automaker to move up the marketing launch of its critical 2009 Ford F-150 by a month to November — after moving it back by two months from October to December. Confusing? Yeah, but considering the roller-coaster ride the economy and fuel prices have taken over the past three months, it's no surprise that Ford marketing mavens are throwing darts at the calendar. Despite the 2009 Ford F-150 being revealed at the Detroit Auto Show way back in January, we're just now finding out the meat and potatoes numbers truck buys look for. Although we'd already heard the numbers on the new F-150 tow rating, we can now add maximum payload and fuel economy to the list. Our pals over at Pickuptrucks.com have put together an exhaustive rundown of the figures for engine size and chassis, but the basics are this: maximum payload has gone up to 3030 lbs and maximum towing jumps to 11,300 lbs. Those big numbers put it at the top of the heap for both cargo and towing. Fuel economy for the special Ford F-150 SFE (Super Fuel Economy) with low rolling resistance tires, a trick rear axle with the 4.6-liter three-valve V8 hits a Chevy Silverado XFE/GMC Sierra XFE-matching 15 MPG city, 21 MPG highway. Ford has announced that the redesigned 2009 F-150 pickup will have best-in-class towing capacity of 11,300 pounds, up 300 pounds from the 2008 model, according to PickupTrucks.com. The weight rating is 500 pounds greater than that found on its nearest competitor, the Toyota Tundra, and marks an important competitive edge in the rapidly shrinking half-ton pickup market. Ford is out and about testing the 2009.5 Ford F-150 Diesel, this time with sheetmetal more suiting to the 2009 model year. As proof that this is the new diesel-powered F-150, the photographers from KGP managed to snap pictures of the "DIESEL FUEL ONLY" strip over the gauge cluster, the telltale slotted/sideways exhaust tips and, most importantly, the first shots of the tank access for the urea. Ford's "Raptor", the road-ready yet also apparently ready-for-Baja racer version of the 2009 Ford F-150 has been spotted not utilizing its big ol' suspension and tires. Some are suggesting the truck's future may be in jeopardy, what with above-four-dollar gas and all. But it would be something of a shame if this never saw production, because with 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, a reported four inches of extra suspension travel, and perhaps even a supercharged V8 good for over 400 HP, the Raptor would be perhaps the most capable off-the-shelf off-road truck Ford has ever built. Ford announced today that it was delaying the release of their 2009 Ford F-150 on the heels of GM's announcement that they would likely delay the development of the replacement for their GMT900 platform. Obviously, the merger of high gas prices and the F-150 getting thumped by the Civic has convinced Ford it also needs to cut the production of its older models. Resources are also shifting toward the Edge, Flex and smaller cars like the Focus. Mike Levine over at Pickuptrucks.com has some new spy photos of the much-anticipated (by Ford fan-boys) 2009 Ford F-150 Raptor, the factory rock-basher Ford plans to "drive... right up Toyota's ass." These pictures start to show off the new nose punctuated by a stamped mesh grille, and you even get a glimpse of the beefy factory skid plate. Someone attending a Ford dealer training session for the new half-ton 2009 Ford F-150 in Michigan took a picture of an information placard revealing the six-speed automatic 5.4-liter V8 will achieve 320 horses at 5,200-rpm and 390 lb-ft of torque at 3,500-rpm. The 2009 Ford F-150 has arrived and, for potential buyers, there are two major stories here other than the new frame and exterior: more standard/available features and more model variations. Now standard is the AdvanceTrack with Roll Stability Control (RSC), Trailer Sway Control, the new Tailgate w/ box side steps and the new "Easy Fuel" capless fuel-filler system that uses a a sensor to automatically seal shut when the nozzle is removed. Available on all F-150's is the SYNC system (with all goodies), new 700-watt Sony sound system, integrated trailer brake controller (segment first on light-duty pickups) and rearview camera assist. There are going to be a total of 35variations of the new F-150 (XL, STX, FX4, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch), including the new Platinum series, which adds extra detailing and chrome on the outside and features such as ash wood accents, 10-way adjustable leather captain's chairs and standard 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. While we've already given you what you should expect from the new 2009 Ford F-150, and we've already even showed you a heavily cloaked new Toby Keith-powered truck, we've now got a real treat — an opportunity to peel some more layers off the exterior. We must say that having an engineer or marketing maven driving around town in an almost completely undisguised 2009 Ford F-150's one way of getting yourself canned from the big blue oval — talk about a "bold move." Unfortunately for whoever was driving the new mini-Super Chief-like prototype hauler from Ford, the sneaky spies from KGP were there to snap a quick shot or two for your viewing pleasure. While we're expecting to see this bad-boy Tonka-truck revealed officially at the Detroit Auto Show in January, we're still trying to figure out exactly what to expect underneath the newly-styled sheet metal that screams "Hi, I'm Dave." Hot on the heels of Ford fan-boy Igor's take on what to expect from the 2009 Ford F-150, now we've got some new shots of both the re-designed interior and exterior of the new Ford F-150 pickup from the many minions of Brenda Priddy. While the truck's still pretty well covered, we're most certainly able to see a very Super Chief-like look peeking out from behind the grille netting. So Igor was right about that. The interior on the other hand is of the "Platinum" level 2009 Lincoln Mark LT and looks very snazzy indeed. Expect to see this new Ford F-150 to sport one or maybe both of Ford's new 5.8-liter and 6.2-liter BOSS V8 engines to make its way into the F-150 and eventually even see Ford's new 4.4-liter Lion diesel to show up under the "power dome" — a first for the F150 lineup. The new pickup's expected to hit the showroom floor January at the Detroit Auto Show, dealership floors come second quarter of 2008 and of course it'll be a 2009 model.
