This new small batch of photos of the highly anticipated 2009 Ford Fiesta show off the hatch's more feminine side. No shots of the Fiesta rounding a curve or running the ring here, just ghost women on cell phones and bright pastel colors. If the RHD wasn't enough of a tip that this is a non-US model, we'd point out the interior shot makes it look like the car is parked at a gay Berlin disco. More »

Billed as the most frugal Ford ever, the 2009 Ford Fiesta ECOnetic is a special version of Ford's small Euro hatch. Powered by a 90 HP 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine calibrated for efficiency, the ECOnetic is able to return about 64 MPG (3.7L/100km). Perhaps even more impressive is the segment-leading 98g/km of carbon dioxide emissions, which is minuscule enough for the ECOnetic to avoid UK road taxes. All this tidiness is due in part to subtle aerodynamic tweaks, a slightly lower ride height, and low rolling-resistance tires. It's hard to say whether someone at Ford Europe has a cruel sense of humor, or if these were just the last overalls in the bin. Whatever the reason, they're pink, and they were worn by workers installing huge banners over the Cologne Plant ahead of the celebration at the start of 2009 Ford Fiesta production. The banner installation was installed over the course of eight days and adds a solid whack of color to the otherwise drab industrial landscape. Whatever, we just want a pair of those fancy trousers. This morning, Ford continued their excruciatingly slow release of details on the 2009 Ford Fiesta. Today's morsel is the top-of-the-line new Fiesta's Duratec gas engine will be rated at just over 118 HP, good for a 0-to-62 MPH jog in just under 10 seconds, yet still providing a combined fuel economy of 47.9 MPG (That'd be 38.9 MPG for us colonials). Talk about having the right product in the wrong place. Ford will be debuting a version of the new as-of-now Euro-only Ford Fiesta Econetic at the British Motor Show later this month equipped with a miserly 89 HP, 1.6-liter TDCi turbodiesel engine. How miserly? It's good for 75 MPG in imperial gallons, which gives it a Prius-smoking 62.5 MPG here in the US of A. Something tells us Ford would have no problem selling a few of them here, considering the tectonic shift towards smaller, more fuel-efficient cars we saw evidence of yesterday. No word on US availability of the Econetic when the Fiesta hits our shores as a 2010 model, but it's a fair wager Mulally and Co. are mulling it over. More »

Tipster Martin pointed us in the direction of the Dutch version of Autoweek, who have stated the Ford Fiesta RS has been approved for production. The car would of course be based on the 2009 Ford Fiesta and will be getting a turbocharged 1.6 liter four good for a speculated 200 HP. Making things even more interesting they say some of the interior bits will be chucked in favor of weight savings and help to get the little terror from zilch to 62 in six seconds.
