It decorated the walls of a generation car lovers and defined an era of supercar excess. Several decades later the once cutting edge design is certainly dated but is certainly still the stuff of exotic car dreams for many car lovers. Anyone with the means to make their aging supercar dreams a reality would be hard pressed to find a nicer example of a Countach than this 1230 original mile 1987 5000 Quattrovalvole currently listed on Ebay. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5868981/go-back-in-time-with-this-1987-lamborghini-countach-5000-qv/gallery/" title="Click here to read more about Go back in time with this 1987 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

53 years ago today, <a href="http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/chevrolet-introduces-the-el-camino">Chevrolet introduced the1959 El Camino</a> to the automotive world and it hasn't been the same since. In direct response to the popularity of the Ford Ranchero, Chevrolet had decided it needed to stake a claim in the world of the automotive based utility vehicle. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5850196/the-chevrolet-el-camino-turns-53" title="Click here to read more about The Chevrolet El Camino turns 53">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

<!-- videoId: aaGCZuuBw10 --><!-- /videoId: aaGCZuuBw10 --> Based on the fact Ford deemed it a "new category of automobile", it appears they were rather proud of their redesigned 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. A power boosting intercooler and "a computer controlled suspension" (complete with idiot light) were added to the quirky four cylinder Turbo Coupe among other updates and improvements. Shown here in a very 80s advertisement, it was clear both Ford and whoever narrated this advertisement were very serious about the new Turbo Coupe. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5813159/1987-ford-thunderbird-turbo-coupe-was-a-new-category-of-automobile" title="Click here to read more about 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was a &quot;new category of automobile&quot;">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Welcome to <a href="http://jalopnik.com/tag/down-on-the-street/">Down On The Street</a>, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. I've been looking for a DOTS-worthy Subaru for a long time, but it seems that most of the 70s and 80s examples were crushed long ago. While I'd prefer a BRAT, we'll have to settle for this Justy. <br clear="all" /> <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5096569/1987-subaru-justy" title="Click here to read more about 1987 Subaru Justy">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Everyone remembers the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5065698/24-hours-of-lemons-texas-winner-team-schwing-toyota-corolla-fx16">FX16 Corolla</a>, but what about the plain ol' economical FX? It was the cheapest Corolla you could get, and the ones sold here were made in California… and it appears that most of them are still on the road today. Sure, that flat hatch looked <del>hideous</del> a little odd, but in an endearing sort of way. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5089973/the-1987-toyota-corolla-fx-conquers-space" title="Click here to read more about The 1987 Toyota Corolla FX Conquers Space!">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Welcome to <a href="http://jalopnik.com/tag/choose-your-eternity/">Project Car Hell</a>, where you choose your eternity by selecting the project that's the coolest... and the most hellish! In our last foray into the Burning Garage O'Pain™, the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5063009/project-car-hell-mad-scientists-of-gm-edition-buick-reatta-or-oldsmobile-trofeo">Buick Reatta beat the Olds Troféo</a> by a 53% to 47% poll split. We've had unifying vehicular themes for most of our Hell Challenges recently, but sometimes you need to choose between two <em>totally different</em> eternities- say, one in which <a href="http://www.earwigs-online.de/Lherculeana/Lherculeana.html">St. Helena earwig</a>s colonize your bile ducts, and another in which you are stuck in an Amway PowerPoint presentation 24/7. And, just for fun, we're going Warsaw Pact versus NATO, with one machine from the hottest period of the Cold War and the other from the wild and crazy endgame.<br /> <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5064329/project-car-hell-cold-war-edition-dodge-power-wagon-town-wagon-or-lada-signet" title="Click here to read more about Project Car Hell, Cold War Edition: Dodge Power Wagon Town Wagon or Lada Signet?">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Are you ready for another round of <a href="http://jalopnik.com/tag/nice-price-or-crack-pipe/">Nice Price Or Crack Pipe</a>? Last time we were here, 79% of you felt that the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5057811/nice-price-or-crack-pipe-the-100000-electric-de-lorean">$100,000 Electric De Lorean DMC-12</a> deserved the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/classic-ad-watch/marshall-lucky-has-the-solution-to-inflation-324952.php">Marshal Lucky treatment</a>. Yessir! Now we've got a profoundly customized '87 Corvette that <a href="http://jalopnik.com/people/bzr/">BZR</a> found for us; it failed to sell with a Buy It Now of 95 grand, but check out the receipts: the "partial total investment" in the Lazer F/X Prototype comes to $210,868.45. There's a Lingenfelter 388ci small-block (with an automatic), a custom-molded interior, and a bunch of stuff described by the seller as "aggressive." It still needs bodywork and paint, but you're getting this thing for <em>less than half</em> the original investment! <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___Lazer-F-X-Collectors-Show-Car-LIKE-NO-OTHER_W0QQitemZ330274821313QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmd">[eBay Motors]</a> <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5059272/nice-price-or-crack-pipe-the-95000-lazer-fx-1987-corvette" title="Click here to read more about Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: The $95,000 Lazer F/X 1987 Corvette">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

It turns out that Céline Dion <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5043751/prenez-de-lavance-avec-chrysler-1990-dodge-shadow">really did make French-language Chrysler commercials</a> back in the 80s, and here's another one allegedly featuring the future superstar. Thrill as she hoons that '87 Sundance right up the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stade_Olympique">Stade Olympique</a> in Montreal, miraculously avoiding arrest at the summit. Maybe 146 turbocharged horsepower (although this car appears to be the 97-horse NA version) is all you need to accomplish such a feat! <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5056705/celine-dion-drives-her-87-plymouth-sundance-right-up-the-tallest-building-in-montreal" title="Click here to read more about Celine Dion Drives Her '87 Plymouth Sundance Right Up The Tallest Building In Montreal!">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Welcome to <a href="http://jalopnik.com/tag/down-on-the-street/">Down On The Street</a>, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. The VW van is a fairly common sight in Alameda, so much so that I keep passing by most T2 Transporters without stopping to photograph them (we've seen numerous T1 buses: <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/the-lowest-daily+driven-vw-transporter-you-could-possibly-imagine-307995.php">1956</a>, <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/1957-volkswagen-transporter-264347.php">1957</a>, <a href="http://jalopnik.com/362663/1960-volkswagen-transporter">1960</a>, <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/another-low-volkswagen-transporter-328832.php">1966</a>, and <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/volkswagen-type-2-with-rare-condiment-colors-option-271747.php">1967</a>). I'd been contemplating the inclusion of an early water-cooled Volkswagen van in this series- but still wasn't convinced they <em>belonged</em>- when I spotted this super-clean '87 Vanagon Syncro parked just across the street from the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/1957-cadillac-sedan-de-ville-326055.php">1957 Cadillac</a>. I'm convinced now; it's Vanagon Monday today!<br /> <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5043731/1987-volkswagen-vanagon-syncro" title="Click here to read more about 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Welcome to <a href="http://jalopnik.com/tag/down-on-the-street/">Down On The Street</a>, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. We've only seen <a href="http://jalopnik.com/340934/1982-mercedes+benz-380sl">one Mercedes-Benz R107</a> so far, though they were made <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_R107">from 1972 through 1989</a>. I see them around town, but they've just always seemed so <em>timeless </em>that I tend not to notice them while I'm out looking for cars to shoot. Today we're going to look at a Late Reagan Era R107, one of the very last of the series.<br /> <a href="http://jalopnik.com/5040859/1987-mercedes+benz-560sl" title="Click here to read more about 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Last spring, we <a href="http://jalopnik.com/365474/how-about-a-yugo-for-the-24-hours-of-lemons">saw the '87 Yugo GV</a> of Clint, the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/365014/move-aside-lemons-teams-evil-genius-on-board">Evil Genius Racing</a> welder who built the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/389821/when-you-go-from-44th-to-15th-place-in-six-hours-you-get-a-few-dings">Black Metal V8olvo</a>'s roll cage. Back then, Clint had an idea he'd make the Yugo into a 24 Hours of LeMons car... but it was just too nice. Instead, he applied a few months of work and a bunch of parts, and now it's one of the nicest Yugoslavian cars in Northern California. We're disappointed that it won't be racing, but here's your chance to be the star of the Marshal Tito Cruise Night in your hometown! <a href="http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/794416924.html">[Craigslist Sacramento]</a> <a href="http://jalopnik.com/400317/evil-clint-couldnt-bear-to-lemon+ize-his-yugo-fixed-it-up-instead" title="Click here to read more about Evil Clint Couldn't Bear To LeMon-ize His Yugo, Fixed It Up Instead">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

This ad might not be quite as painfully 80s as the <a href="http://jalopnik.com/397695/top-ten-best-car-ads-of-the-1980s">Cocaine Factory '85 Duster Ad</a>, but it's getting there. 1987 was the year the Celica was "improved" by going to front-wheel-drive and shedding the old funky angular look in favor of a more focus-group-friendly (i.e., bland) appearance. The Phil Collins-esque theme song fits this car the way profits from missile sales to Iran fit the Contras' financial needs! <a href="http://jalopnik.com/400054/now-with-dynamic-aerodynamics-1987-toyota-celica" title="Click here to read more about Now With Dynamic Aerodynamics: 1987 Toyota Celica">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

It all starts with a beam of light fired from the taillight of an '87 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_18">Renault 18</a> located in an Argentinian art gallery packed with jittery stimulant-inspired sculptures. Next thing you know... well, <em>something </em>happens, and a security guard isn't sure what to make of it. Thanks to <a href="http://jalopnik.com/people/franzouse/">Franzouse</a> for the tip! <a href="http://jalopnik.com/398889/cocaine-random-shapes-combine-to-make-the-1987-renault-18" title="Click here to read more about Cocaine, Random Shapes Combine To Make The 1987 Renault 18">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

We love the BMW 6 series cars around here, and so far we've seen an <a href="http://jalopnik.com/386910/1983-bmw-633csi">'83 633CSi</a> and an <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/1987-bmw-l6-328837.php">'87 L6</a> parked <a href="http://jalopnik.com/tag/down-on-the-street/">on the Alameda street.</a> You fans of the early 5 and 7 series BMWs will have your day, as I'm going to shoot at least one example of each for this series... but that's going to have to wait, because we've got a "stop the presses" sort of a find for today. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/396731/1987-bmw-m6" title="Click here to read more about 1987 BMW M6">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

We've got a shipping container with a vaguely familiar actress at the wheel of a Citroën BX in Japan. The container opens, the car smashes through a gate, and then it plows <em>through </em>a sand dune. We'd expect it to emerge with all the paint sanded off, but instead it emerges unscathed, heading directly for the ocean. Citroëns in Japan- what could go wrong? <a href="http://jalopnik.com/396211/1987-citroen-bx-goes-through-not-over-japanese-mountains" title="Click here to read more about 1987 Citroën BX Goes Through, Not Over, Japanese Mountains">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

This series has included quite a few Porsches so far, with <a href="http://jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/03/63Porsche_LH.jpg">a 356</a>, some <a href="http://jalopnik.com/368316/porsche-912">912s</a>, a couple of <a href="http://jalopnik.com/384437/1979-porsche-928">928s</a>, a pair of <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/porsche-914-326046.php">914s</a>, and- of course- a bunch of <a href="http://jalopnik.com/cars/down-on-the-street/1974-porsche-911-334365.php">911s</a>. But what about the 944? Porsche sold quite a few of them, and not all have been turned into <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moNpQtOg4fQ">$500 race cars</a>. For whatever reason, I just haven't found any 944s in Alameda... until now. <a href="http://jalopnik.com/394453/1987-porsche-944s" title="Click here to read more about 1987 Porsche 944S">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>
