All is apparently not hunky-dory in Toyota City. Apparently, a steering-shaft defect in the Hilux and related vehicles, incuding the Hilux Surf and Hilux 4WD, could lead to a loss of control, and merely a month after Toyota QC experts began investigating the problem, an injury accident was reported that hurt five. However, the driver of the pickup wasn't injured. Nevertheless, Japanese officials have launched a criminal case against current and former Toyota officials, charging that the company knew of the defect and sat on it for eight years.
