Audi Wins!: R10 Diesel Takes Le Mans

The odds were, er, nearly universally for them, but Audi handily pulled the win off anyway. One of the company's R10 cars showed up the field of gas burners, giving Audi the title of first manufacturer to take Le Mans in a diesel-powered prototype. R10s took first and third spots overall, and the lead car took the record for longest distance away from the Audi R8 team (380 laps vs. 379). Nonetheless, the company deserves its propers for getting the car into championship form in less than a year, though years of development are behind its 650 hp, 5.5-liter twin-turbo, common-rail diesel V12.
