India Shakes Loose The Tatas — Builds $2000 Car

India's largest auto manufacturer, Tata Motors is claiming to be shaking its collective tailfeather and making with the cheap cars — a 100,000 rupee ($2,200) five-seat family wagon. At that price it'll be the cheapest car on the Indian road — cheaper even than the cheaper-than-a-bowl-of-curry-rice Suzuki it'll be replacin' at the bottom of the chart. This big ol' Tata project is expected to create about 10,000 jobs over the next two years with a 10 billion rupee ($220 million) investment. Although the picture above is of the Tata Safari 4x4, which is not the car being built — but it's the only Tata we could find that wasn't in some way pornographic — you know, for the kids.
