Sony BMG issued a statement today in response to some photos on the front page of today's NY Post of Spears driving down the Malibu coast with baby Sean Preston, in the back seat — facing forward. Egad's — that could be illegal! Sony BMG claims Spears was in "total compliance" with California law which requires:

"all children under the age of six or weighing less than 60 lbs be in safety seats in the back of the car — rear-facing seats are only required if the infant is not more than 20 lbs. Britney's son Sean weighs over 20 lbs."
