The Nissan Altima appears to be edging back toward its larger Maxima sibling in design, but in a good way — not that weird "which one is that"? way of a couple years back. The new, 2007 model, which Nissan unveiled in New York this week, also gets new bones, shedding the FF-L platform it shared with the Maxima in favor of Nissan's new "D" platform, which the company says offers more rigidity. It also gets a new suspension setup and Nissan's Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) kit; available engines remain the 2.5-liter four or 3.5-liter V6.
