Dutch industrial designer Marjin Van Der Poll thinks carmakers should let customers design their own cars. Envisioned in his Modular Car concept, a manufacturer would provide a running chassis covered in a block of moldable foam, allowing the customer to, in essence, act as coachbuilder by doing his or her own nipping and tucking. Then, the finished product would be finished in fiberglass and resin, and painted. Think of it as a full-scale take on the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby. Considering how horrendously our Pinewood Derby car turned out, we might just stick with those who know what they're doing. Though, driving around in just a straight-up block of foam might be cool too.
